MC delivers another great story. My only detraction was the length of the discussion between Hag & Ash over Stone - It seem repetitive and took away from the overall story, but not enough to drop a star. MC is an automatic buy for me.

Robert Watts is having the worst day of his entire life. First he's laid off, then he finds out that his wife is having an affair, with his boss no less. And that's only the beginning. Before the month is out, Robert finds himself alone to raise his daughter with no money, no job, and a house that is minutes from being repossessed. Just when he hits rock bottom, a strange visitor arrives at the doorstep of his soon to be foreclosed house with a letter from an aunt he didn't know existed.

I did not like the character of Robert Watts. He is a weak willed, sorry, unlikable character, just letting life wash over him without an attempt to fight for himself. And the beginning was long, tedious and really didn't add to the main story. Also, the situational premise of THIS book is pretty absurd.

Having said that - I will read the next book in this series since the overall premise, the ending, and other characters are compelling enough to make me willing to give it a second chance. the ending has a twist, that some might not have seen coming, but better yet (in my opinion) it introduced other characters that I hope will make the next book(s) better. It's a slog-fest but towards the end it gets better. Here's hoping the improvement continues

This story takes lots of time and 4 "books"; (volumes 1 & 2) before you get a HEA. Having said that: this is a really good series. Not my favorite (Timing & After the Sunset) but certainly my #2 series for Mary. Jory sets the bar for Mary's classic ditzy but smart; doesn't know he's beautiful, male lead. Sam is classic gorgeous Alpha male. Don't know if Mary wrote this series first, but these are the character types that flavor most of her other books. A good read and a good listen

Templeton Reed has been hiding his inner polecat since he was a child. Keeping his animal secreted is hard for a shifter, especially when one is living in a secret community of mystical beings. It's the wolf shifters that cause Templeton the most trouble with their darned sensitive noses. Templeton has a run-in with the Lake Erie pack and their alpha, Mikel Lupei, at the Office for Transmogrification Registration (OTTER).

Mob enforcer Ceaton Mercer has killed a lot of people in a lot of different ways - he stashed the last two bodies in a toolshed belonging to a sweetheart marine researcher in an idyllic island community - but he's really not such a bad guy. Over time he's found a home of sorts, and he even learns he's found a place in the hearts of the people he works with...at least enough so that they won't put a bullet in his head because he's outlived his usefulness to the boss.

When the local crime lord drags Rath out of bed and tells him he has three days to pay his father's latest debt, Rath doesn't know what to do. There's no way to come up with so much money in so little time.
