The destruction of the Death Star by the Rebel Alliance was a decisive blow against the Empire, but Palpatine and his monstrous enforcer, Darth Vader, are no less of a threat. The brutal extermination of Alderaan not only demonstrated the magnitude of their murderous power, but served as a chilling testament to their resolve to crush the Rebel uprising. Standing against them, Skywalker, Solo, and the Princess remain uncertain opponents. Luke is gifted and brave, but unschooled in the power he possesses.
I loved it I have become comfortable with Mara Jade and the five new Stormtroopers that made this book so enjoyable I love the interaction and the way things are working together I hope to see more in this series between these two separate contingence the only Jade has been around for a while but the new Stormtrooper 18 which is the only way I can really describe them as a dynamic to the storyline that I find absolutely exhilarating I can't wait to read more about them I hope that they continue I'm enjoying it immensely

The dying Empire's most cunning and ruthless warlord - Grand Admiral Thrawn - has taken command of the remnants of the Imperial fleet and launched a massive campaign aimed at the New Republic's destruction. With the aid of unimaginable weapons long hidden away on a backwater planet, Thrawn plans to turn the tide of battle, overwhelm the New Republic, and impose his iron rule. Meanwhile, Han and Lando Calrissian race against time to find proof of treason inside the highest Republican Council.
I read this book over 20 years ago and I found it captivating it reinvigorated my love of the Star Wars saga this version did not disappoint me it was very near a theatrical performance
Five years after the Death Star was destroyed and Darth Vader and the Emperor were defeated, the galaxy is struggling to heal the wounds of war, Princess Leia and Han Solo are married and expecting twins, and Luke Skywalker has become the first in a long-awaited line of new Jedi Knights. But thousands of light-years away, the last of the Emperor’s warlords - the brilliant and deadly Grand Admiral Thrawn - has taken command of the shattered Imperial fleet, readied it for war, and pointed it at the fragile heart of the New Republic....
it's hard to believe that it was so long ago that I waited for each book to come out captivated by the story caught up in the drama revitalized with Star Wars Mark Thompson is an excellent storyteller he brought this to life the actual performance reminiscent of the NPR Star War sagas broadcasted even longer ago once again I am captivated in caught up in the story and I can't wait to start the next book
Experience Star Wars: A New Hope from a whole new point of view. On May 25, 1977, the world was introduced to Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, C-3PO, R2-D2, Chewbacca, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader, and a galaxy full of possibilities. In honor of the 40h anniversary, more than 40 contributors lend their vision to this retelling of Star Wars. Each of the 40 short stories reimagines a moment from the original film, but through the eyes of a supporting character.
Alright, I liked most if nearly all of the short stories contained within this. I had high hopes for some of the stories but was left feeling unfulfilled which kept me from giving it a perfect 5X5X5, of course this is subjective and I do not want to spoil the stories I will say that there is nearly something for everyone in this and it is a good companion for trips in the vehicle that last about 1 hour or so. It is a great value for the money if you are a Star Wars fan, this will not disappoint.
The Empire's master plan is under way. The New Republic is on the verge of civil war and the rumor that the legendary Admiral Thrawn has returned from the dead is rallying the Imperial forces. Now Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, and their allies face the challenge of their lives. They must infiltrate a hidden fortress filled with Imperial fanatics, rendezvous with a double-dealing Imperial commander, and journey into enemy territory to learn the identity of those responsible for an act of unthinkable genocide. But most important of all is the truth about Thrawn.
there are two versions of this book. this version is excellent, the performance is stellar, while the story line is alright and may no longer be considered as cannon, the performance is extremely well done. the parts of the story that are not canon are well done but different from the Disney world. I wish that the Zahn series would have been turned into a screen play but I guess it is no longer my star wars of 1977.
The Empire stands at the brink of total collapse. But they have saved their most heinous plan for last. First a plot is hatched that could destroy the New Republic in a bloodbath of genocide and civil war. Then comes the shocking news that Grand Admiral Thrawn--the most cunning and ruthless warlord in history--has apparently returned from the dead to lead the Empire to a long-prophesied victory.
I am now a fan of Marc Thompson. good story line told in the classic Zahn style, the right amount of action , intrigue, drama and politics.
For a beleaguered Empire, desperate times call for desperate measures. Sowing discord among the fragile coalition of the New Republic, remnants of the once powerful Empire make one last play for victory. Having implicated the Bothans in the genocide of the Caamas, they now plan an attack on Han and Leia that is also to be blamed on the Bothans. If they are successful, the New Republic will be torn asunder.
If I had not listened to Marc Thompson's version of book 1 and found it to be EXCELLENT. I would have never known what I would be missing. The Narration by Anthony Heald is good but does not come close to the quasi-dramatization of the Thompson's work and who would have thought there would be more than one narration. I would love to return this copy, but I have already purchased the Thompson copy and while I finished this one I can already see that the Thompson copy adds so much more. In the Heald copy the music is out of place and dominates the storyline from time to time without adding any real benefit to the story line.
In this definitive novel, listeners will follow Thrawn's rise to power - uncovering the events that created one of the most iconic villains in Star Wars history.
I.love.backstories.associated with.the.star wars.universe, this story.gave.excellent information on one.of.the most.intringing.characters from the original Zahn series.of.25 years ago and mixed it.in with.currently canon
After the humiliating theft of the Death Star plans and the resulting destruction of the battle station, the Empire is on the defensive. In response to this stunning defeat, the Imperial Navy has authorized the formation of an elite team of soldiers, known as Inferno Squad. Their mission: infiltrate and eliminate the remnants of Saw Gerrera's Partisans. Following the death of their leader, the Partisans have carried on his extremist legacy, determined to thwart the Empire - no matter what the cost.
