In this first volume of his memoirs, then-newly-qualified vet James Herriot arrives in the small Yorkshire village of Darrowby, and he has no idea what to expect. How will he get on with his new boss? The local farmers? And what will the animals think? This program is filled with hilarious and touching tales of the unpredictable Siegfried Farnon, his charming student brother Tristan, and Herriot's first encounters with a beautiful girl named Helen.
This is one of my favorite audiobooks ever. Warm tales of humanity infused with humor, local color, rich characters. Go for it

Where does How to Win Friends & Influence People rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I read this book as a teenager - but I was too young to appreciate its simple genius. Now that I'm in my 50s I'm blown away. Have started using its principles daily. It's a game-changer. Great narration too
Universally acclaimed as a musical genius, Miles Davis was one of the most important and influential musicians in the world. Here, Miles speaks out about his extraordinary life. Miles: The Autobiography, like Miles himself, holds nothing back. For the first time Miles talks about his five-year silence. He speaks frankly and openly about his drug problem and how he overcame it. He condemns the racism he encountered in the music business and in American society generally. And he discusses the women in his life.
It's incredible to hear one of the greatest musicians of modern times speaking so frankly about his life. All the stories about working with other jazz giants in blunt honest language brings the music to life. Fantastic narration.

Bill Bryson and his family live in a Victorian parsonage in a part of England where nothing of any great significance has happened since the Romans decamped. Yet one day, he began to consider how very little he knew about the ordinary things of life as he found it in that comfortable home. To remedy this, he formed the idea of journeying about his house from room to room to “write a history of the world without leaving home.”
I read the book several years ago and enjoyed it quite a lot. Listening to the author read it in his own voice gave it s new dimension. Recommended
Like every other hobbit, Bilbo Baggins likes nothing better than a quiet evening in his snug hole in the ground, dining on a sumptuous dinner in front of a fire. But when a wandering wizard captivates him with tales of the unknown, Bilbo becomes restless. Soon he joins the wizard’s band of homeless dwarves in search of giant spiders, savage wolves, and other dangers. Bilbo quickly tires of the quest for adventure and longs for the security of his familiar home. But before he can return to his life of comfort, he must face the greatest threat of all.
Would you listen to The Hobbit again? Why?
Rob Inglis' performance really brings this story to life. I am not particularly a fan of this genre but I enjoyed this so much that I am going to listen to his rendition of LOTR next.

What did you love best about Michel Thomas Beginner Spanish, Lesson 1?
This system is brilliantly put together and makes it super-easy to start speaking simple Spanish almost immediately by concentrating on the words that are the same (or almost the same) between Spanish & English.
I spent 3 weeks trying to learn Spanish from free podcasts, which ranged from decent to terrible. Then, on the advice of a friend I tried the Michel Thomas lessons and loved them. Vastly superior.
F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic American novel of the Roaring Twenties is beloved by generations of readers and stands as his crowning work. This new audio edition, authorized by the Fitzgerald estate, is narrated by Oscar-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal ( Brokeback Mountain). Gyllenhaal's performance is a faithful delivery in the voice of Nick Carraway, the Midwesterner turned New York bond salesman, who rents a small house next door to the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby....
Fantastic, nuanced performance by Jake Gyllenhaal. Every character comes to life with his or her own voice. Very highly recommended
