Publisher's summary

One woman’s reappearance throws her family into turmoil, exposing dark secrets and the hidden, often devastating truth of family relationships.

Kate Bennett vanished from a parking lot eleven years ago, leaving behind her husband and young daughter. When she shows up at a Montana gas station, clutching an infant and screaming for help, investigators believe she may have been abducted by a cult.

Kate’s return flips her family’s world upside down—her husband is remarried, and her daughter barely remembers her. Kate herself doesn’t look or act like she did before.

While the family tries to help Kate reintegrate into society, they discover truths they’ve been hiding from each other about their own relationships. But they aren’t the only ones with secrets. As the family unravels what happened to Kate, a series of shocking revelations shows that Kate’s return is more sinister than any of them could have imagined.

Voices don't sound real.

The story itself was well crafted. The voices at times were often way over played.

I didnt see that coming.

11 years ago Kate disappeared from her husband and daughter. 11 years later she returned with a newborn baby girl. this book is what happenes when she returned through the eyes of Kate, her husbands new wife, and her daughter Abby. How they are coping and the Secrets kate is keeping as to what happened while she was gone .
the author seamlessly wove these characters together in a way that made you feel for each of them. understanding for the husband who got the wife back he lost, hurt for his new wife as she feels pushed to the edge of the family, and loss for abby over the mother she is only now getting to know.
look out for the twist at the end. Putting down this book is barely an option.

Good storyline, worth the read.

Lucinda does a great job pulling you into the story right away and you will definitely find yourself unable to put it down. However there is much to be desired as far as character depth and the need of rounding off the story to not just make sense to the reader but believable. Nonetheless the alternating points of views were interesting enough to keep you wanting more. I will check out her other book 'The Perfect Child' before really critiquing her writing style.

Had my attention

Good storytelling. It kept me interested and I didn't want to stop till the end. Maybe it was a tad predictive, but not so much that I was annoyed. In fact I wanted more.

Sad, suspenseful and very intriguing

I knew when I read the description of this book that I was going to enjoy it. I was captivated by the characters and enjoyed that each perspective was given without replaying identical parts of the storyline like some authors do. I was very surprised at the ending. I didn't want to stop listening to this one.

Stellar...Just Stellar

HOLY S....CRAP! This is my first Lucinda Berry book and I can promise you that it will not be my last! As soon as I finished When She Returned, I looked up all of her other books so I can try to get my grubby paws on them!

This book was so full of ups and downs and HOLY CRAP I did NOT see that ending coming! It seems that a lot of times, mystery books follow the same type of theme, but I think that this story was totally unique to itself and so friggin enjoyable!

I really enjoyed that it was written from three different perspectives, that of Kate, the woman who disappeared for over a decade, but her story throughout the past 11 years, Abbi, Kate and Scott's daughter, who was just a toddler when Kate disappeared, and her story is in the present, and Meredith, Scott's new wife, telling her current story. I must admit, I found myself being quite annoyed with Meredith! I don't know why, but in the end, I did soften up to her a bit! I found myself rooting for Kate! I found the characters likeable, for the most part, and enjoyable to follow!

I am an avid audiobook listener, and this book had a stellar cast of narrators with Colleen Marlo, Lauren Ezzo, and Amy McFadden. They definitely helped make this story! Stellar performance from these ladies!

Overall, I am super thrilled to have found a new author that I think I am going to absolutely ADORE! Lucinda Berry knocked it out of the park with this one! STUNNING...just STUNNING!

I can't wait for my next Berry book!
