Publisher's summary

Once, we’d worshipped them as Gods.

For nearly 400 years, the Veil has protected us from the Fae of Alfheimr. In their absence, our lives have shifted from decadence and sin to survival and virtue under the guidance of the New Gods. I’ve spent my entire life tending to the gardens next to the boundary between our worlds, drawn to the shimmering magic like a moth to the flame.

Then, we died on their swords.

All of that changes the day the Veil shatters, unleashing the fae upon our world once again. The magic of faerie marks those of us they mean to take, but the Mist Guard protecting Nothrek will kill us all before they let the fae have us. There’s no choice but to flee everything I’ve ever known, not if I want to live to see my twenty-first birthday as a free woman.

Now, they’ll claim what’s theirs.

But before they capture me, Caelum saves me from the Wild Hunt. Fae-marked and on the run, he is able to fight back in ways I only dream of. From tentative alliance to all-consuming passion, our bond strengthens as the fae close in and evil lurks ever nearer. With my life on the line, he is everything I shouldn’t dare to want and a distraction I can’t afford. I can’t seem to stay away, not even with something greater on the line.

My heart.

well narrated but the book fell short of expectations

I was so excited for this book. Between loving the author and hearing so much on bookTok I had high hopes for this. The book was just very long and not that exciting. The beginning started out good and then it fell flat until the last 3 chapters. The audio was well narrated but the book fell short of expectations.

Weak imitation

This book is a weak imitation of other better books (Blood and Ash series, ACOTAR series). Some of the lines seem to come from those other books almost verbatim, There is little character or world building. Some of writing is just vulgar and crude. The main male character is domineering and one scene borders on rape. The narrator is bland and uninteresting.

Good start

This was a great start to what I’m sure will be an exciting adventure. I am curious to see what happens next. And how our MMC will be able to sway the FMC back around to him.

Absolutely Epic

I absolutely loved this story. It pulls you in from the very beginning and pulls you in deeper and deeper. You know there is something more going on, and once you finally discover what’s going on it’s already too late.

Coming back from book three

I just finished reading book three and...its like... I don't ever want to read another love story because this is the only one I want in my heart.

Its been awhile since I found a story I deemed worthy to be labeled romance. Most "romance" now days is shallow, smutty and the formula so obvious its insulting.

This part is a bit of a spoiler: My favorite part in this book is probably the barn scene. It had the nervousness of talking to your crush for the very first time. Then a moment that was so tender and quiet that i held my breath as i read it.. THEN a flash of extreme possessiveness. Sighhhhh...I was hooked from that moment on. Later when I listened to that scene the narrator failed to express any of that (and other scenes) and so the 4 star review.

As this love story progresses it matures, parts of it die so new parts can be born. It goes deep and high sometimes at the same time. There is a beautiful grappling of dominance and surrender, freedom and captivity, fate and choice. Its about darkness and light, death and life. Its possessive and jealous and sacrificing and selfless.

The spice is sensual, sprinkled in harmless kink that most people can relate to- it doesn't rob from the love story. Like in real life, you see this aspect mature through stages of love and discovery of self and eachother.

All that in this awesome world of creatures, villains, gods, lands and kingdoms. And while it is a fun escape you get the most out of it if you pay attention.

I almost didn't choose this book because i thought it was just another book.. So glad I did.

Ruined By It’s Raunchiness

If you like hours and hours of S&M, running and unadulterated raunchiness then you are in the right place. For me the raunchiness ruined it for me. If the vulgarity was edited out it might not be bad, it would probably be incredibly short though. The story would need more substance to avoid being a long story from playboy. The potential for a good book is there but it truly missed the mark.

The narrator is pretty good, I’d listen to her again.

Not for me

Interesting to start with, then just another dirty, predictable fantasy story. I really couldn’t get over the main dude calling his lady “little one” while saying sexual things to her. Umm… gross.

It Is Pretty Good

The schmexy scenes seemed a bit too.. I don't know.. Disjointed. The scenes themselves were fine.. but the language of those scenes.. it just took me out of the fantasy of the world we were supposed to be in.
