Story
Twenty-year-old Violet Sorrengail was supposed to enter the Scribe Quadrant, living a quiet life among books and history. Now, the commanding general—also known as her tough-as-talons mother—has ordered Violet to join the hundreds of candidates striving to become the elite of Navarre: dragon riders. But when you’re smaller than everyone else and your body is brittle, death is only a heartbeat away...because dragons don’t bond to “fragile” humans. They incinerate them.

Story
All Mina ever wanted was to escape her father's control. Half human, half vampire, she lived eternally torn between two worlds, never fully experiencing the pleasures of either until her father chose her as the pawn in his latest political move, gifting her to the darkly powerful and dangerously seductive Malachi Zion. Malachi is not a vampire to be trifled with. He rules with an iron fist and has a reputation for the darkest of sins. But the longer Mina spends with him, the more she realizes he's not the monster she first thought.

Story
Annie and Lee were just children when a brutal revolution changed their world, giving everyone—even the lowborn—a chance to test into the governing class of dragonriders. Now, they are both rising stars in the new regime, despite backgrounds that couldn't be more different. Annie's lowborn family was executed by dragonfire, while Lee's aristocratic family was murdered by revolutionaries. Growing up in the same orphanage forged their friendship, and seven years of training have made them rivals for the top position in the dragonriding fleet.

Story
When Pestilence comes for Sara Burn’s town, one thing is certain: everyone she knows and loves is marked for death. Unless, of course, the angelic-looking horseman is stopped, which is exactly what Sara has in mind when she shoots the unholy beast off his steed. Too bad no one told her Pestilence can’t be killed. Now the horseman, very much alive and very pissed off, has taken her prisoner, and he’s eager to make her suffer. Only, the longer she’s with him, the more uncertain she is about his true feelings towards her, and hers towards him. And now, well, Sara might still be able to save the world, but in order to do so, she'll have to sacrifice her heart in the process.

Publisher's summary
Jude Maddox knows nothing of love or even light. He knows only his grim duty as the Hand of Death, to lead the Knights of the Eternal Star into a land filled with nightmares and certain demise. It’s only when he sees her—a young woman with wild, amber eyes who’s as fierce, defiant, and swift as the shadow beasts themselves—that he feels the warmth of life in his blood …
The other Knights may fear their lethal commander, with his hard, merciless demeanor. Outcast Kiara Frey sees only a leader, a man who knows how to survive. A man like her. But wanting him is as treacherous as the shadows themselves … and just as seductive.
With a kingdom on the verge of collapse, the Knights must now venture into the darkest heart of the land and uncover the secrets of the misted shadows, where evil will prey upon their minds and feast on their flesh.
It will betray their senses. It will surpass their nightmares. Most of them will die.
But they have no other choice. Because the only way to fight the darkness … is to become it.

Story
Fae games will change you . . . but their love will ruin you. At least, that's what my mother told me. My mother had three rules: 1. Never make a bargain with a fairy. 2. Never enter the Waywoods on a hunting day. 3. Never give the High Fae princes a reason to notice you. But even when I followed all the rules, the royal fae still took my family from me. So in one night I broke all three rules, and brought the kingdom to their knees.

With the help of a vengeful witch, she’s given everything she needs to resurrect the person she loves most. Tadhg, a devilishly handsome half-fae who has no patience for high society—or propriety—would rather spend his time in the company of loose women and dark creatures than help a human kill one of his own. Find a missing book. That was the job the woman in the Doc Martens gave us. Easy money, right? Only now it seems she's actually an ancient, powerful sorcerer, and the book is a Book of Power that doesn't want to be found. It wants to tear reality apart at the seams, and it'll use anyone it can to do it. So now we've got one spectacularly displeased sorcerer, a hungry, still-missing book, a dentist with bad hygiene, and a neighbourhood having some reality issues to deal with. Plus about a day before the book turns our world - and us - inside out.

Don't Want to Put it Down Read
This book is so great I devoured it! Just enough tension, coming of age-ish, strong female lead, twists and turns, pretty much everything great in a fantasy book. I can't wait for the next book!

Mixed feelings
Was a little bored in the first half but engaged with the second half. The narrators are excellent for fantasy but maybe not for the romance.

It was good… definitely not a children’s book
I liked this book… overall an average read for me. However, I had two complaints.
1. There were a couple gaps in the descriptions that made me a little bit confused. The world building was gorgeous in the second half, but very sparse in the first. There were things integral to both the plot and the characters that I didn’t know until about half way through the book. Ex. I didn’t realize that Jude was blind in one eye, and I didn’t realize how they didn’t have a sun.
2. While I would agree that this is a YA book, I’ve seen it on a couple of children’s lists, and it is not a children’s book. There’s no sex, but there are some steamy kisses. Additionally, there are a few f-bombs and some really gross zombies. I would say this is a 15+ book. Maybe look elsewhere for a middle schooler or younger.

Great Romantic Fantasy...Cannot Wait For Book 2!
There is nothing I didn't like about this book. The characters were great and well developed. The storyline was unique, interesting and there were plenty of plot twists and surprises. The romance had a very low steam level, but it was slow-burn and "I'll burn the world down" kind of romance with a lot of great chemistry between the FMC and MMC. The world building was great, not over or under done, but just right. The ending killed me a little amd was a complete cliffhanger that will certainly leave you wanting Book 2 ASAP.
What was most refreshing is that the FMC was very different than most FMC in Fantasy Romance novels. She was witty, funny, strong, optimistic, silly, playful, more like I would imagine and in reality, more how I was as an 18 year old girl. Some of the FMC in these novels are just constantly angry, brooding, sensitive, they overreact to everything and anything and they're not realistic at all. Keara has to be one of the most realistic female leads in a novel I've ever read and I adored her character so much.
The MMC, Jude, was very kind of typical, dark, sexy, brooding, violent and chaotic past, but due to falling in love, he seems to find himself again and changes his life around because he finds someone whom he truly cares about, when he really never had anyone like that in his life. I still very much enjoyed his character and liked watching him grow and mature throughout the expanse of the novel.
The dynamic between the two leads was great too. Lot's of great banter without TOO many cliche' tropes. There was no one horse, one bed, nothing that forced them to be together constantly, which was great because Keara actually had a life and friends outside of him, none of the things you see in like every, friggin, fantasy romance novel ever made. They did have the fated love going on a bit though...
Also, the narrators were both pretty good as well. It's told from both Keara's and Jude's point of view. So there is female narrator and a male narrator and they're both great!
But overall, I would 100% recommend this book. It will give you all the feels and is extremely well written.

Gideon is Amazing as always
some of the book drags on little.
and the Author sure put poor Jake through a lot, he better get a better story.
Gideon is an amazing voice actor and absolutely slays everything he does (DA2 fan)
I did have to speed up the Narration, because the female narrator speaks way too slow.
but over all fantastic, the plot seems to be lost at first. but you figure it out at the end. I will for sure be waiting on book 2
