Statistics show that 50 percent of what determines divorce is genetic temperament. And, if you are one of the 20 percent of people who are born highly sensitive, the risk of an unhappy relationship is especially high. Your finely tuned nervous system, which picks up on subtleties and reflects deeply, would be a romantic asset if both you and your partner understood you better. But without that understanding, your sensitivity is likely to be making your close relationships painful and complicated.

Everyone has a sensitive side, but nearly one in three people have the genes to be more sensitive than others—both physically and emotionally. These are the people who pause before speaking and think before acting; they tune in to subtle details and make connections that others miss. Whether introverted or extroverted, they tend to be bighearted, creative, and wired to go deep, yet society tells them to hide the very sensitivity that makes them this way. These are the world’s “highly sensitive people,” and Sensitive is the book that champions them.

Empaths not only sense other people’s emotions, but also absorb them - sometimes to their own disadvantage, often leading to overwhelming sensory overload and feelings of confusion or low self-esteem. Their willingness to help and please others might make them prey to opportunists or cause them to give away more energy than they can afford.

Superman was sent away from his dying planet with no one to guide him as he grew up. Orphaned Catwoman was forced to steal food to survive on the streets of Gotham. What makes these superheroes super is their determination to not be defined by helplessness. Being a highly sensitive person means you’re probably highly misunderstood and you may feel like you’re too empathetic for your own good. Your intuition and empathy create situations where you always put others first and say “yes” to everything, regardless of how you feel or what you need. As a result, you end up in unhealthy relationship dynamics that leave you exhausted, resentful, and stressed.

Great book
Really good content, not something I’ve read before and very helpful in my trauma healing. I don’t love the narration though, it’s a little stiff and unnatural.

Direct and Discernable Information with Depth
This is such a useful book for application. I tend to get lost in the complexity of self-help information. This one had an inclusive foundation that can be applied to everyone, while honoring differences among us. Love this author's work. She's exquisitely reflective in her writing.

Great Read!
I really enjoyed this book. I think she should have changed the order of how it’s written but my favorite part of the book was the middle to end. I feel like this book is great for everyone to read.

Super clear psychology
Elaine is not just a genious, but also generous by sharing ideas that has the power to make many break free from medications. Since the book uses many high level ideas it took me a while to see Elaine loves to keep things to common sense. Something that today should be called rare sense.

A lot of helpful information
This book digs into the different personas inside you and really helps you understand why and how you undervalue yourself. It also provides steps you can take to begin to heal. In order to do the assignments it is helpful to also have a paper copy or the e-book.

Life Changing!
I am sooo grateful for this book! It has absolutely changed me and made me more aware of why I act and did the things I used to do. Everyone I recommended this book to thanks me, tells me how their brain has been rewired and how much more sure of themselves they are. Definitely a great read for EVERYONE! I am excited to see where I take myself now that the persecuting and critical voice in my head is virtually non existent!

Brilliant book!
I can honestly say that this book has transformed my life. I understood a lot about myself, tactics that I had been inadvertently using to sabotage myself.
I think every one should learn about the linking/ranking concept and protector/ persecutor reflex.
Would highly recommend it.
