Terrific story, perfect narration.

I loved the story of two people, both slightly dif6from others due to their intelligence, coming together to solve a mystery. Their attraction to each other sizzles, and their verbal banter left me laughing.
The narrator's interpretation was vastly entertaining.

Good read

This was a good story, I like the characters as well as the storyline. Amanda is one of my favorite authors, I have yet to read one of her books and not like it. The narrator however is another case, I have listened to Barbara read other books and have managed through them. For some reason she always sounds like she is sucking on something be it candy or whatever. In this book, she did not but her voice for Masters (the Earl), I couldn't figure it out. He sounded like someone who spent time in the caribbean or abroad and not british like he should have been considering they were in England. I don't get it?! Was it just me?? Overall, a good book and story.

Just an ok read

Not one of my favorite Amanda Quick novels. I find both lead characters difficult to relate to. I definitely think their romance and relationship is meant to be--they are indeed made for each other. However, their romance does not pull at my heartstrings as much as some of her other novels. I also wanted Iphiginia to not be so resistant to marrying Marcus. I did not like the mistress aspect to the story, and I wanted it to come out that she was indeed a virgen. Not sure why it bothered me this much with the reading as it never bothered me in the past.

The reader was ok, but a lot of the voices started to sound the same toward the end. There were a lot of characters in this book, so it must have been difficult for Rosenblat to find unique tones for them all.

The fiction I need to get me through COVID

Not fluffy- just light and enjoyable. Amanda Quick delivers formulaic, but entertaining stories populated with likeable characters.

Good time out with Historical Romantic Suspense

A classic Amanda Quick execution of a Historical Romantic Suspense. Enjoyable, but not necessarily her best effort.
Iphiginia has thrown off the shackles if small town restrictions and chosen to pose as The Earl of Master’s mistress to hunt for her Aunt Zoe’s blackmailer.
Masters has come to town to find out who is posing as his mistress and helps a friend by searching for their blackmailer.
Rosenblat does a mostly very good job of narration.

Ever reliable, Amanda Quick

I really like her stories. She has the knack of writing strong female characters without making them anachronistic. This is one I've listened to more than once. I don't love the narrator, but she does a fine job.

Not a big fan of Amanda Quick

This is my second book by Amanda Quick and I have to confess I'm not a big fan. I loved the plot but I don't care for the writing. I find her books to be really slow moving and too much of the story was told through narration rather than through the characters themselves. I just wanted to skip pages but on audio that's not quite so simple. At Ch. 6 I was ready to put it but instead decided to push through it.

The audio book is narrated by Barbara Rosenblat. I'm not quite sure if I'm a fan of Ms. Rosenblat. The characters were clearly distinctive and she did an awesome job with the many characters but I didn't care for the husky voice of the males and I thought the female voices were a bit too sweet... high pitched. I do plan on listening to another one of her narrations as I've heard really good comments from others listening to Ms. Rosenblat.

I purchased both the Kindle ebook to get the audio at a reduced price for a total of $11.98 - money sadly wasted.

Liked, not loved

I did enjoy this. I like the main characters and the secondary characters also. This is the type of story I enjoy where the controversy isn’t in the relationship of a couple, but in the outside sources, usually a dangerous bad guy. So the couple gets to fall in love and not be in angst in their relationship. I actually am really good at figuring out a storyline, but it took me quite a long time to get this one. Lol. I appreciate that aspect also. I love Amanda Quick and definitely feel like this was a good installment, even if it wasn’t my favorite. This is the first time I have listened to Barbara Rosenblat. I was kind of unsure what I thought until about halfway through when I realized she really reminded me of an actress, maybe with Fred Astaire or Cary Grant. If I imagined myself actually watching an old movie I could completely see the emphasis of character. It might’ve been a little over acting for a book, but I definitely prefer it to go that way rather than a blah narrator. I would have no issue with listening to another book by her.

I got this on a two for one sale and it was absolutely worth the half credit. I am super super picky about what I spend a whole credit for so I’m not sure if I would spend a whole credit on this. But that’s less a reflection of the book, and more a reflection of my OCD nature lol.

Clever mystery, romantically delightful.

Independent, strong, quick-witted woman meets high society gent from small beginnings. Amanda Quick has done it again, for me at least, with a twisted mystery and a love match of very a likable hero and heroine.

Iphiginia and Masters find themselves in a pickle, having to rely on and trust one another. He is drawn to her charisma and intelligence; she is drawn to his strength and boldness. The mystery and romance kept me listening.
