A good romantic suspense marred by poor narration

This romantic suspense story was very well written. I love the geographic details and atmosphere of Miami. The newspaper reporter Ingrid and the police detective Rick were realistic people with believable motivations. I enjoyed the enemies-to-lovers trope and the characters’ gradual falling into love. The pair respected each other’s work and intelligence. The serial killer was suitably ominous and scary, and the climactic action was great. I would definitely read this author again.

Unfortunately, the narrator, Stephanie Sanders, did not do a good job on this audiobook. She was okay at making the characters’ dialogue distinctive and somewhat acted out. Unfortunately, for everything besides the dialogue (this includes the thoughts of the characters), Stephanie Sanders was reciting it in the way a smart-alecky teenager would read aloud a paragraph in a singsong manner. It sounded like she made no effort whatsoever. This singsong voice grated on my nerves and was especially inappropriate for the thoughts of the sexy Latino detective or the dangerous serial killer. I sped up the speed to 1.25x in order to get through this very poor narration faster.

I requested and received a free audiobook copy, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Right wind out over Evil for ‘Ma’s Sake’

When enacting revenge, make sure you stay above the law. Unusual collaboration can solve murders if it means getting a serial killer. Great story with lots of twists and turns.

Hope for another book by this pair.

Entertaining but not long enough

I really enjoyed the storyline. There was enough suspense that kept me engaged but not too much. I would have loved to see more interaction and relationship development between the main characters. I didn't feel like I knew them well enough. I generally read spicier books so wasn't expecting fade to black. Nothing wrong with that, just adding it to my review so other readers know what to expect.
