Publisher's summary

Returning home has never been so bittersweet in this acclaimed novel from number-one New York Times best-selling author Sherryl Woods.

Flamingo Diner has always been a friendly place where everyone knows your name. Unfortunately, in the small town of Winter Cove, Florida, it is also the place where everyone knows everything about you.

As a teenager, Emma Killian didn’t recognize what a remarkable business her family had created, and so she moved away. Now, her father’s tragic death has brought her home to face a mountain of secrets, debts, and questions about why and how her beloved father died. As Emma grapples with her out-of-control family, the responsibility of keeping Flamingo Diner afloat, and a pair of well-meaning senior-citizen sleuths, she finds support from an unlikely source.

Onetime bad-boy Matt Atkins is now the Winter Cove police chief. Matt has always had a penchant for trouble and an eye for Emma. Now, it seems he’s the only one who can help Emma discover the answers to her questions...and give her a whole new reason to stay home.

Great but for…

I’m about half way through the book and had to stop to write this review. So far, the story is great. Keeps my interest and makes me look forward to the opportunity to listen again.
The only stumbling block is in the voice of the Matt, male main character. I’m pretty particular about narration.
A very large part of the selections I choose is in how it is narrated.
I listened to the sample of this book and enjoyed the narration. It’s a very good part of what makes this a great listen *except* for the voicing of the main male character. It’s very distracting, too forced, too deep, and pronunciated in a very strange way.
Had I not already been hooked by the storyline, I may have already stopped and returned the book. I may yet if I can’t past it, but so far, I’m able to tolerate it.
The voicing of other men in the story has been fine. I wish the narrator would have used the tone of of one of the other characters for the main one.

Strong multi-character Development

Excellent performance of a book with multiple characters that are well developed.
Several plots are intermingled and draw you into the book, making you want to know more.
My compliments to the author.

I loved this book. EJ

The only thing I didn’t like about this book is I needed to be longer or I needed it to be the start of a series. I loved the characters and how they cared about each other. Especially the mamas friends. I just wish again. We could have a book two or maybe three.

Narration

I'm going to read the book before doing a book review. I don't care for this particular narrator's voice.

Not Very Interesting.

Narrator was not the best - kind of annoying at times. Really didn't like the lead character - she was shallow, selfish, over dramatic, and generally annoying. Really didn't like this book much. but listened to the end because I'm stubborn and hate to quit.

It was life like. It was a little slow but also very real. I enjoyed it

Sweet story

A romantic, sweet story, but a little too contrived and predictable.
Needed to have a little more mystery to it.

Nice solid romance

I enjoy a romance that has a little more to it. FD is a family story, the story of a town, and a romance! Well done!

So so

The narration of the Matt character was awful and creepy; hard to get thu the book with him as a prominent character. His ‘voice’ was a black cloud over the rest of the narration which was pretty good. The story was predictable—not worth a credit but okay as a free selection or low sale price.
