I just love having to stop long enough to laugh out loud again and again. BUT mostly I love, love, love sexual tension in a book, and this one has a l..Show More »ot. I don’t even care if there’s sex as long as the tension is there. I absolutely, positively hate it when there’s no desire, no lust, no thoughts, no nothing, then there’s an explicit sex scene or two. AND some reviewers call that “hot and steamy.” Umm, no it’s not! It’s sex thrown in because sex sells. BUT there’s NOTHING that led up to the sex so that makes it boring.
Anyway, this is my first book by Ms. Bowen but it won’t be my last. I like sex in my books and I’m always looking for authors who can write sexual tension. So far I’ve found Samantha Holt and Katie Reus, and 1 other that escapes me right now.
I really like Max and Ivory, and everything that happened in his sister’s bed chamber. And I loved how Ivory kept giving Max orders and he fought her every step of the way then ended up agreeing with everything she said. It really did remind me of Olivia Pope, of the TV show Scandal. If you like the show you would like this book, and the way Ivory and Elise solve problems for the TON. I have to admit I was getting more and more interested in what happened to Beatrice. AND after I did find out, I realized she was just a normal, non-thinking teenager, as dumb as a box of rocks. I wish the author would have handled that a little bit different. I was hoping I would like Beatrice but I didn’t when the truth came out. It almost ruined the book for me. But not quite.
There was, as I said before, sexual tension throughout this book and some great sex scenes. There were a couple of “dammits” but that’s about all. So, for all of you who like explicit sex but absolutely NO swearing, this book is for you.
As to the narrator: Ms. McNab does a good job on the male and female voices but she doesn’t have much emotion when she reads. She doesn’t laugh at all, when it’s called for. She just reads it like normal. Ashford McNab used to be one of my favorites but lately so many narrators seem to be looking at reviews and listening to what people have to say about what’s wrong with narration. For example, Eric G. Dove was just OK for me but I just borrowed my daughter’s iPad and listened to him do Tessa Dawn’s Blood Curse series, and OMG he was phenomenal. He did all the things he never used to do. The same things Susan Duerden ALWAYS does. Things I wish A.M. would do. I’ll continue to listen to her but there are those who are so much better now.
What a great story. I really like this author a lot! I love the way she writes her female characters all beautiful, strong, smart and witty.
..Show More »>I loved Elise and Noah! They were fantastic together. They had great chemistry and the dialogue between these two was fantastic! Amazing.
The story line and plot was fantastic! He ended up making a great Duke! His parents, wow what jerks! I really liked how his speech problem was written. I love the "fixers" that part of the story line is great too.
This was such a fantastic story. As was Duke of My Heart! Which is by far my favorite book I have read this year!
I want to see more Kelly Bowen books on audible please! Looking forward to the next book in this series.
As for the narration, well I am a big Ashford McNab fan so it is a total bonus she is narration this series and is perfect for it!
This was just as great as the other two books. It’s about mystery, murder, romance, sex, all rolled into one and so well written I hated to see it end..Show More ». And, oh no, it’s a three book series? Although, I guess that’s for the best. It’s so much better to read a trilogy than to try and read 20 or 25+ books in a series. I can’t wait to see what Ms. Bowen writes next. I hope it has all the elements this trilogy had. It's so much better than a plain old romance.
I loved Angelique being a math genius and Alex being so amazed by it. I loved how they met and her fear of being thrown out of his gaming hell, and Alex being so drawn to her it scared him to death. And I loved the mystery about what happened to her family’s fortune.
I couldn’t stand Angelique’s idiot brother Gerald, or his two friends Seaton (creep) and Burleigh (soooo whiny.) Ms. Bowen wrote them both perfectly.
It was nice to see “Duchess” and Alderidge from the first book, and I adored Roderick, he was such a cute kid.
LOL, and I loved the part in the Tower of London. Alex and Angelique were simply marvelous together. I just loved every word in this book. Especially what happened to the bad guys.
There was some seriously explicit sex in this book, but NOT erotic. It was very romantic. And there was no swearing to speak of.
As to the narrator: Ashford McNab is awesome! Her voices and emotions are amazing, voices that match the characters perfectly. Seaton sounded like an arrogant jerk and Burleigh was so whiny sounding, it was too funny. And Alex sounded sexy as hell. Perfect narration.
