That line is when I knew this series was not for me. I've yet to read a ZA novel written by a women author that didn't eventually boil down to one of ..Show More »those adult romance novels your mom used to read, with some zombies every now and again.
Seriously there's an entire section of this book that sounds like a story about Stockholm syndrome and the romantic implications there in. Leading to a very graphic sex scene that makes it impossible for me to share this with friends and family. Half forgot I was even listening to a zombie novel.
The main character is annoying her love interest is one step above the "guys from twilight" all brooding and mysterious and what not. And the other characters are completely forgettable and poorly portrayed.
Finally the authors catchphrases are blaring throughout. Two of which include "my mind was happy to supply." And "what felt like a small eternity"
Just to clarify I don't consider this book to be utter garbage, just not for me. And now you know why.
The narration of this audio book is adequately done but the storyline is garbage. Book two in this series happens just after the start of the outbreak..Show More ». The characters seem one-dimensional and contradict themselves at times. The main character is insecure and everything she does seems to be about pining for attention. I just did not like anything about this despite having high hopes after book one. I will not be continuing to book three.
I really do think this has becoming my favorite zombie series of all time. I love the accuracy of the science, the character development, the v..Show More »illains, and pacing. I finished this book in one setting the day it came out. I am probably going to read 4, I don't think I can wait for the audio book. This is one of the first zombie books written with a female lead that didn't have me gritting my teeth. Bree is relatable, competent without perfection, and best of all evolving! She is growing with the series. My favorite things about these books as both a Soldier and a scientist, is that both the combat and microbiology is done so well!
