I had great hopes for a modern western drama about an 40+ widow (Gemma) finding love for a 2nd time with a 30+ hot cowboy (Cash) and his daughter (Mac..Show More »ie) who he barely knows. Unfortunately, Cash immediately demands total sexual dominance from Gemma, an independent ranch owner who hired Cash as her foreman. When Gemma agrees without reservation to become a doormat, I wanted to scream and started to loose interest. Of course, Cash isn't quite so open-minded about sexual freedom when his 22 year old daughter Macie starts dating a part-time ranch hand/artist. I enjoyed listening as Cash learns to build a relationship with his grown daughter, Gemma becomes friendly with Macie, Cash learns to work with the guy dating Macie and Macie becomes more confident. There were some fun sex scenes but too many involved domination, hitting, and bondage of women. I can't help thinking: if getting tied up & beaten was that much fun, the men would be wanting the treatment, not dishing it out.
Love, love, LOVE this one! The McKay crew has me entranced! This is one that I'd put in my 'immediate re-listen" category.
Cord and A..Show More »Js love story made me want to gush! This one gets back to the basics of good ole one on one loving, and I loved every minute of it. Cord is as tough as nails, but once sweet AJ breaks down his walls you will absolutely melt. This series is definitely heavily erotic, but I'm finding that the stories behind the sex are just as appealing. I loved it, and can't wait to indulge in the next one.
While I liked the main characters Skylar and Kade, the book needed a reality check. Plot: Sky gets pregnant and can't find Kade to tell him. Kade find..Show More »s out a year later and insists on being part of baby's life.
First, Kade is an identical twin who is always being mistaken for his disreputable brother. When confronted by Sky (who was stood up by twin), Kade didn't pull out his wallet to prove his identity. No, he pretends to be the bad boy brother. Why???
Next, Kade volunteers to work in the Wyoming wilderness for an entire year, where Sky can't tell him the news. However, during that year, Kade was informed of a death in the family and came home briefly for a funeral. Since he wasn't in the military or the jungle somewhere, it just didn't make sense. And who wouldn't take a satellite radio or something to communicate in case of an emergency.
There were some amusing moments when Kade and Sky were learning to parent together but not enough to keep my interest.
Chassie West Glanzer hasn't been a stranger to drama and tragedy. A year of wedded bliss to sexy-as-sin cowboy Trevor Glanzer has brought her the happ..Show More »iness and contentment she never thought she'd find, and mellowed Trevor's rodeo wanderlust. Then Trevor's old roping partner ambles up the driveway and Chassie's life changes drastically.
Trevor never expected to see Edgard Mancuso again, after it became clear he couldn't be the man Edgard needed. Now Edgard is back from Brazil to sort out their tangled past, and Trevor is plagued with feelings he thought he'd buried over three years ago. Although Trevor is hat-over-boot heels in love with his sweet, feisty wife, the sense his life is missing a piece has always gnawed at him.
Chassie's shock that Edgard and Trevor were once loves turns to fear of losing her husband. Or worse, fear that Trevor will stay with her only out of a sense of duty. Yet as the three of them spend time together, the sins of the past blur and fade, leaving raw emotion and unbridled passion.
Passion that could heal - or cause irreparable damage to their future.
I really like LJ's books, this one, however, was not the best. I loved Indie and Colt and glad they finally got together but the storyline is really,..Show More » really weak. Also, it ended so abruptly it almost startled me. The sex was hot, sorta, the arguments between the two tedious, and there could have been much more to the story.
I believe the best part, at least my favorite, was when Colt's dad found him at his fishing hole & talked to him and the brothers came to see him. This story did make me want to "hear" what happened with Cam, he's got to be next. Hope Audible sees fit to get the audio version.
I love this series and Strong, Silent Type is no exception. I love that Quinn McKay realizes the value of his marriage and the quick and sexy he tries..Show More » to win his estranged wife. Libby doesn't make it easy and one minute you know they will reconcile and the next it seems they won't. Will they? Won't they? I'll never tell!
As I've said before, this series is my guilty pleasure. I love each book and I find it growing on me more with each book. Hot, cowboys, ranch life and sex.
Wyoming rancher Quinn McKay thought he'd only have to bide time until his level-headed wife came to her senses and called a halt to this "trial separation". He never believed the marital rough patch would drag on for a coon's age.
Libby McKay knew when she married the gruff, laid-back cowboy that he wasn’t prone to blathering about his feelings. But three months have passed and her stubborn-as-a-mule husband is still living by himself in the horse trailer.
It seems he’d rather hold on to his pride than hold on to her. Quinn realizes Libby is determined to move on if he doesn't loosen his tongue and he’ll lose the only woman he's ever loved.
In a last-ditch effort to keep her in his life, he offers her one weekend of uninterrupted sexual decadence. Reigniting the passion is easy. The hard part comes after the sheets have cooled and they find out if what remains is strong enough to survive past mistakes.
yes,I love Lorelei's books, I love Scarlet as the narrator on the earlier audio books, I just couldn't get in to Vanessa Caine voice. She makes the mal..Show More »e voice sound to immature, and I just think a rough rider should sound a little rough.
Not Even Close To the Fantastic Other Rough Riders
. I am such a fan of the Roughriders series by Lorelei James. Getting to know the McKay family and all of their ups and downs keeps it interesting..Show More » and the series is phenomenal-if you are into naughty, sexy books.
LJ usually has a plot that loosely keeps the descriptions of sex part of the story. This one was not a favorite because it was completely BDSM and there was little to no plot. What little there was came at the very end.
I don't mind the dominant/submissive roles in any of her other books, however in this one the main character (Bennett/Ben) was a jerk and he offered a little redemption in the end. Ainsley was a significant businesswoman in the community but wanted to be dominated at night. That is all well and good but there just was not anything else, as I mentioned, until near the end.
Not my favorite Rough Riders and I probably won't bother to listen to this again as I go through the series. I really like most of the series.
Notes: Mature themes & strong language - not for the under 17 age crowd
Creditworthy/$: I say yes on either account because I am invested in the series. If you are Lorelei James and her fantastic series. I would say pass on this unless you are completely invested, like me.

Yet another winner from Lorelei James. Kissin' Tell is a definite favorite of this series. I love a good listen, that includes a school-age crush th..Show More »at never dies and blossoms into that 'forever love'. In addition to the hot and spicy romance between Georgia and Tell, this story has some moments that made me tear up from both poignancy and laughter, which in my book is a recipe for a great story. Loved it!
Love Lorelei James and Short Rides is an awesome update to the Rough Rider's series! It was awesome to get a look into the lives of the characters. A..Show More »long with real life problems, the stories kept me focused and really into the series. Another trophy buckle in the series!

I love this story but I was disappointed that the audiobook doesn't have the Boone story at the end. Now I have to buy the digital copy just for the e..Show More »xtra story that was supposed to be at the end.
