This was a pretty good story but I think Ms. Herron lost track of what she’d written because she repeated several things more than once. Not enou..Show More »gh to take away from the story but it was a little annoying. Also, I listened to this book as I read along and Eric Dove, the narrator, read the word HOSPITAL 11 times and he said just that word. BUT in the book ALL 11 times it was spelled HOSPITALIC. That’s not even in the dictionary.
The fun part of the story was that you didn’t know who the heck the killer was. One minute you just knew it was Grimley, then it was Easton, then it was Yonkers, then it was McCray, then it was Baines. It was nice trying to figure out who the killer was. I was hoping the book didn’t tell me or I didn’t figure it out until near the end. It was at 90% that the killer was identified and I had a sneaky suspicion as to who it was.
An all-around good story with explicit sex and some swearing and the F-bomb was used 16 times.
As to the narrator: Eric Dove gets better all the time. His men sound sexy and the women sound like women. But the two most important things to me when it comes to narrating is when a book calls for a whisper or a laugh, and Eric does both. He also sighs, grumbles and you can hear his voice crack with emotion. He's just awesome.
I liked that I kept thinking “ok, it’s him!” then “no, it’s him,” and then I’d be wrong again, so I knew I was going to be surprised at who the killer..Show More » was. It was exciting until the very end.
Both Ian and Beth had their share of guilt throughout the book but I felt the sorriest for Coach Gleason. That was a long time he spent in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, and more years on the run trying to find the real killer of all those girls. I liked Coach’s story and I rooted more for him than anyone else. And, Ian never stopped believing that his stepdad was innocent and never stopped looking for the guilty person. This was another good mystery by RH and there was a surprise near the end of the book, concerning Beth.
There was one explicit sex scene and there was swearing. The F-bomb was used 12 times.
As to this narration: I can NEVER understand what the first person to listen to a book does nothing but leave a 1 star rating then the second one leaves 4 or 5 stars and does nothing but rate it, too. Why do you do that?
Anyway, you can’t go wrong when Eric Dove reads a book to you. He does great voices and reads with wonderful emotions. That’s why the 1 star rating can’t be trusted, but then, neither can the 4 star because they don’t tell you why they hated or loved the narration. He's awesome.
