One of the best book I have encountered this year.
This book kept me engaged from start to finish. Some may be turned off by the level of violence depicted, but none of it was inappropriate given the ..Show More »book largely follows the adventure of a navy seal sniper.
The book is quite a trip, I must disagree with a few of the other reviewers when they say the author is nearly as good a Clancy. In my opinion he is far better.
If the publisher is monitoring these reviews, please note I am keen for more audio books from these authors. I will be checking back periodically to see if they have any new books.
The narrator Brian Hutchison, is quite good. He has a pleasant voice and if he worked a little more on his pacing and character voices he could be one of the very best. I would be happy to hear him again.
I'm already listening again because I was so caught up in the story that I'm sure I missed details, particularly character development details that wi..Show More »ll help me to know them better. Literally, I couldn't put it down. After staying up all night, I was about 40 minutes from the end, the sun coming up and and I was fading. I unplugged, set the alarm, and got up 2 hours later to finish the book before breakfast.
Gil Shannon is the protagonist of this action thriller series. The Sniper and the Wolf is Book 3. Book 4, not yet available for preorder at Audible ..Show More »(but it certainly will be), will be titled Ghost Sniper and released on July 12, 2016.
Scott McEwen coauthored Chris Kyle's autobiography American Sniper before moving to his fictional Sniper Elite series.
There is a lot of action and suspense packed into this fast moving 10 hour novel as Gil Shannon takes on the Wolf, a Chechen terrorist sniper.
I highly recommend this book and all others that Scott McEwen has coauthored.
Like the other books in this series it is well written, generally has good character development, a plot or plots that are not always obvious, and con..Show More »nects the reader emotionally to the story and characters. However, this is not a Gil Shannon story. If you loved the earlier books in this series, as I do, you should know this is not a Master Chief Gil Shannon fast paced adventure and action story. Gill plays only a minor role in this novel. And because of it I have struggled with how to rate this latest installment of Sniper Elite. I remind myself this is the “Sniper Elite’ series not the Gil Shannon series; however it was the do the impossible, do the right thing with a good moral compass, with a sense of humor all with fast action lead character that earned my loyalty to the series. Ghost Sniper is still a good book; I just feel some disappointment and unsatisfied after listening. Rating this book as an installment in the Sniper Elite series I have given it 4 stars because at the end of the day I realized I am not invested in the ‘active’ characters in Ghost Sniper something needed to get 5 stars from me. Bottom line, this is a good book, well written, certainly one of the best of this genre but it doesn’t set the hook for the series as the earlier books do.
