I'VE LOST MY MIND I am Impatient and with many books and, I only get through three hours. I did listen to all 10+ hours of this, which says much. ..Show More »I bought the book, months ago but was not that excited to listen. Think I was put off by the cover and the reviews. It is not a bad book, and if the sequels go on sale, I will read on.
I REALIZED THEY WERE QUITE PREDICTABLE This starts out as a YA book. Kid is a sophomore in High School, has crush on girl, Jock steals girl away from him, and than beats him up. This has a today twist of the beating going viral on U-tube. We are a couple of hours into the book before any Zombies appear. About once every other hour a Zombie wonders on to the scene, as if the writer went , Oh ya, this is called Zombie Rules. The rules are everything you already know about Zombies if you have read one other Zombie book. While I enjoyed the book, I had problems with the main character being a teenager and all these older men make him their leader. The prepper is an older man who magically makes Zach his friend, yet Zach is the one with the mature head on his shoulder and the one that solves all problems. The Zombies, were the same old Zombies and rarely even made an appearance. The kid has no raging hormones and kisses his girlfriend on the head a lot. The rules are like, Thanks Captain Obvious. There also seems to be a preoccupation with bodily functions. I know we all fart, relieve are bowels, take a leak and girls have menstrual periods and use tampons, but not sure why we constantly have to be reminded about it.
PAYBACKS ARE A BITCH I know the narrator was good, cause I never ever thought of him. In most of my reviews I like to make a comment about the narrator. It was not until I got to the right now, that I realized that someone read the book to me. You can't get better than that.
Normally when I finish listening to a title I write the review straight away. But this time I thought I would take a couple of days and think a bit mo..Show More »re carefully about this one. I am glad I did as I was able to actually discover the reason why I had liked it so much.
That reason is simple, it makes feel young. There is no doubt the age of the main character and his ‘girlfriends’ help this, some of the story line regarding the relationships around Zach makes it feel like every teenage boys dream.
Once again a lot of detail is left out of some of the more graphic story line... another indicator of the target market.
Ok with all of that said and with me being middle aged bloke who does read/listen a lot and not just in the zombie genre. I also have two teenage children, which enables me to really understand why some species eat their own young. I like to think I am a bit more mature than the average teenager. Despite all of this I still enjoyed this series! I don’t think I could listen to a lot of this type one after another but it is good to bring out that young teenage person hidden within.
I notice some have commented about the narrator’s lack of emotion. But I did not find it a problem; in fact it just reinforced the type of characters within the story. Once again the speed of the narration was best increased to 1.25x again this only shortened the total listening time a little. This might be important if you are like me; in that you like your credit dollars to give you a reasonable length in enjoyment factor.
I did enjoy the ending in this one and will be looking for the third in the series. However, I suspect the third will be the last time I listen to the series… unless the author does something different. But for me this one deserves two thumbs up!
I find myself rereading the series over and over. I really like to listen to a bit of it each day in addition to the other books I listen to for the f..Show More »irst time. I extremely rarely re-read a book.
