I have read (re-read) all of the Vampire in America series.... and they are excellent reads. Raphael is the first in the series and have characters th..Show More »at you will find in most of the other books. Be warned that to me Raphael ends in a "cliffhanger". When I read the Kindle book I was able to immediately purchase Jabril (crisis averted)..... which is what you will want to do. Amazon has it. The author has stated that Jabril for audible is in production. This a series worth the time invested.
This book picks up where book one left off. Cyn and Raf haven't resolved their feelings or a relationship and Cyn takes the opportunity offered in a c..Show More »ase in Texas to get some distance. She quickly realizes the vipers den she's entered into.
What's nice about this series, is that like Cat and Bones (J. Frost), Sookie Stackhouse, Anita Blake and other paranormal female heros, Cyn isn't defined by the male hero, and neither is the story revolving around the romance. In fact, Cyn isn't waiting around for Raphael to stop his dude-denial and calmly moves on with her life. With this particular couple it's more the story of some dangerous cases in book one and book two that Cyn has to resolve (seems compelledf to resolve). Oh, and by the way, in the background there's a hot dude and some combustible chemistry and they have some unresolved things to hash out. This makes for a pleasant change up.
I really enjoyed the strong female hero who doesn't NEED the guy to be complete, but they find their HEA after all the suspense and drama in a more quiet way. I had a couple eye-rolling issues, such as why, if she can communicate mentally with him, doesn't she warn him of the trap he's walking into or communicate other salient and simple things--but those might be freshman author things that will smooth out later. I'd give this a 4.1 rating.
I'm hoping there will be more of the series offered on Audible. I'd spend another credit on the next one willingly. In fact, I'll be buying a couple paperbacks in the meantime. Fans of the series above will likely enjoy this one. Enjoy!
This really is a great Vampire series to get caught up in.... there's hot hunky vamps, strong heroines and exciting plots and this one doesn't disappo..Show More »int. Raj is the Master of New York and he has to bow down to his Sire who's The Lord of the Northeastern Vampires but who is slowly going insane. He has summoned Raj to Buffalo to try and find out who's been snatching young women from Blood Bars and why. Buffalo is where Sarah lives and he was instantly attracted to Sarah when he met her in NYC when she visited with her friend Cyn who is mated to Raphael (the powerful Lord of the West Coast) and now that he bumps into her again his attraction grows along with his sexual and blood urges, his possessiveness and his aggression if anyone else touches her. Sarah is also attracted to the sexy blonde Alpha Vampire but she has some deep secrets she's not willing to share even though they're working on solving the same case.
Slowly clues come together, attraction grows and there's lust filled kisses and witty banter but all Hell breaks loose when her secrets are revealed and Raj feels deeply betrayed but the clues are still building in the chilling kidnapping case. Sarah and Raj have a lot of verbal sparring with tensions rising and then their slowly building relationship suddenly explodes in some frenzied sex scenes (which are well worth the wait). Suddenly his take-over bid to be the Lord by defeating his Sire is coming to a climactic dramatic conclusion with only one winner. Then Sarah becomes one of the victims and he can't hold on to his temper because someone has betrayed them and someone's about to be turned to dust.
Dual POV's, non stop action in an exciting addictive plot, a few interesting secondary characters but the real joy came from the narrator who did a perfect job at all the different accents, the emotions and the dialogue and she turned a great book into an awesome listen.
Worth a credit? If you want a Vampire romance with a sexy hero, a strong heroine, an intense, romantic storyline and a great narrator then look no further than this listen which was definitely creditworthy. It could be a stand alone listen but it does have Raphael and Cyn from a previous book making an appearance and ends with them in a very chilling situation which is a big teaser for the next V.I.A. book.
I can't say these books keep getting better because they have ALL been fantastic and so this was another mind blowing visit into the lives and loves o..Show More »f the loveable characters in the Vampires in America series. Although this was called Sophia I did think that Cyn and Raphael stole the show and Sophia seemed to be a secondary character a lot of the time. But I'm not complaining because I love the chemistry that Raphael, the most powerful, respected and charismatic Alpha Vampire Lord and his mate Cyn have and the care and understanding they each have for one another's positions and it shows in their deep love, sensual scenes and the grief and rage Raphael went through when his Cyn was injured (sigh)..... it makes me want to go back and listen to their story again (book 1).
Someone was killing vampires as they slept, Sophia had to go to Raphael's domain on the orders of her missing Sire and that's where she meets again the love of her immortal life Colin a human ex Navy SEAL, Colin the man she could never forget, Colin the man she had to give up, Colin the man she still desperately loves and now she has to work with him to find the threat and 'dispose' of it. But first Colin had been working with Cyn trying to uncover clues, rule out or dig deeper as suspicions grew, puzzle pieces fell into place and then the unthinkable happened.... which brought out and unleashed the true power and unstoppable wrath of Raphael.
What an exciting, gripping and entertaining listen as each well crafted scene played out with drama, humor, passion, sex, danger, intrigue, heartache and thrills that only leaves you panting for more. And, to top it off, Traci Odom's narration brought each individual character to life, injected all the right amount of emotion for each scene and, in doing so, created a perfect listen.
Worth a credit? This was two love stories in one..... a rekindled lost love and a strong, passionate and "if you die I die" love - both had heat, sex and intensity as the evil enemy was slowly being stalked and both were all consuming. This gripping story was told from four POV's and was, IMO, another smoothly written and very creditworthy book by D B Reynolds.
