Although it took a little while to adjust to the voices, I found this book to be well worth the credit. The story is funny (laugh out loud funny) and ..Show More »yet keeps you listening to see how the lead characters manage to end up together. I also enjoyed all the characters who played a major part in the overall experience.
Make Mine a Bad Boy is book 2 in the Deep in the Heart of Texas series. This is the story of Hope who comes back to Bramble Texas after failing t..Show More »o become a star in Hollywood. She has decided to marry her back up plan (her high school friend) only to find out she has a twin sister that she didn't know about. That same sister has come to town and fallen in love with the the back up plan. So Hope finds herself drowning in selfpitty and thinking what will she do now that her sister is living the life she had dreamed for herself.
Meanwhile, the man Hope has secretly been in love with all of her life (her best friend's brother Colt Lomax) has come back to town and then the fun begins. I found it hard to like either of the main characters. Hope was a loud mouth and Colt was a jerk. They really could not communicate at all so I did not feel the romantic connection. The love story pretty much started in the last two chapters. The rest of the book was them fighting. There were barely any "magic moments".
I was a little disappointed because the first book was so so good that I've listened to it a few times. I don't regret getting this one because I really liked revisiting the secondary characters life and the funny and crazy people of Bramble. It also sets the basis of what will be the third book in the series, Catch me a Cowboy that I am hoping that comes out as an audiobook as soon as possible! Although I did not love this book I will be looking for more Katie Lane books. The first one was promising enough :).
Narration: Nicole Poole did a very good job on this book, just like on the first one. She does the country accent very good and she makes distinct voices for each character which is a very big plus. The only thing that I need to point out that there was a long pause between each chapter. Too long! I found myself looking at the iPhone app several times to see if I had put the sleep mode on and it automatically turned off. But I guess that was not a narrator problem but rather the audiobook producers.
This is book 3 in the Deep in the Heart of Texas Series. I've listened to all three books and recommend all of them. Listening to the books in order i..Show More »s preferable (so you can get to know the crazy people of Bramble, TX) but not necessary. This is a story about picking up the pieces of your life and starting over. It's about appreciating family and friends and realizing that truly the best things in life are free.
Although this story is very fun, there are parts that are very sad and I cried my eyes out (and I'm not a crier). But all the suffering was so very worth it to get such a satisfying wonderful ending. I can't wait for the next book to come out in audio format.
Narration: Nicole Poole is a great narrator. She nails that Texan drawl! And she adds to the story by making it funnier and more vivid. I actually started reading this book and found the audio version much better. If you are looking for a fun contemporary romance listen and don't mind the heavy Texan drawl then you need to get this.
Yes. I went into this not wanting to like this story. Pure silliness...a who're house, a family curse, an old maid librarian...really? But, in Kati..Show More »e Lane fashion, it was funny and heart warming and just a good time to imagine.
