I was not in love with this book, however, it was entertaining enough to draw me into the series. There are many intricacies of the world that take a ..Show More »little time to grasp. Fortunately, Darcy is new to her powers and we are learning along with her. Turns out she is a pretty decent sleuth as well.
The romance angle here is nice, but way second burner to all the murder and learning the craft stuff. There are so many interesting characters coming at you. Lots of supporting to keep track of as well as their powers when you learn them. Her aunt V is a hoot, her sister Harper is fun as well, and the villagers are head spinning.
Totally clean romance, no bedroom action at all. Also, the mystery is fairly light. There are plenty of clues to help you solve right along with Darcy. A couple side plots keep things moving along at a steady pace.
Narrator Coleen Marlo does a great job with the read, although there were a few things I did not enjoy. Her pace was super swift, or at least it seemed that way in the Audible app. I also heard hints of a strange accent, her "o"s are very odd. I heard it most prominently when she says "potions" which happens often in this book. It was distracting at best.
In the end, I was entertained and curious to see more of the series. It wasn't amazing, just okay, but enough to pull me into the lives of the colorful denizens of the Enchanted Village.
Well, that was certainly the most rapid fire recap of events and exposition from the first book. Seriously, did we need to get all that information ag..Show More »ain? It was way more repetitive than I like, but thankfully it was only the beginning of the book.
I liked this book much better than the first, mostly because the first book spent more time setting up the world and how things work there. Now that we have all that established, we can get into some serious cozy mystery solving. This mystery also brings us more into the culture of the crafters. We get to learn more about them with the introduction of Geo-crafters and magical charmed objects. Very interesting twists and turns.
There are a couple side plots that keep Darcy and Nick on their toes. A good cozy gives you more than one mystery to solve. I expect at least one of these plots to seep into future books. This also gives us more of the villagers that we loved in the first book. I love the familiars!!
I liked this narration by Coleen Marlo much better than the first. I am still bothered by her weird "o"s, but her pace feels more natural. It could have been a glitch in the upload or the production. She has a very warm quality to her voice that keeps the read flowing. She has a slight note of awe in her voice at times that fits Darcy wonderfully.
I am feeling more invested in the series and definitely curious what will happen next. I am a sucker for a series!
This series just keeps getting better! I very much so enjoy Heather Blake's writing talent and Coleen Marlo's narrations! Once again Darcy finds her..Show More »self in the middle of a murder investigation but this time the deceased's spirit has imprinted to her and she finds she has to solve his murder to help him pass over. Also Nick, her love interest and cop is embroiled into this and there is pressure on their relationship due to it and of course Nick's co-worker Glenda...who also is in love with him....causing it. The book has it's funny twists, mystery and magic.!!! Loved it!!!
I breezed through this book, I just fly through cozies! I loved the way things are developing in the village! I was again bored with the gratuitous re..Show More »capping. Every book draws you more into the Enchanted Village and entrenches the denizens more into your heart.
This book gives more backstory for Starla and her love life. We have the mystery with her Ex and complications with her new relationship. There are so many things at play here. It wasn't was intriguing as the last book but it was an entertaining read.
This book as very much about relationships, Nick and Darcy, Glinda and Nick/Mimi, Starla and Kyle, Starla and Vincent, Ve and her latest flavor. Lots of side plots going on beside the main murder plot. A few things were obvious, however others managed to surprise.
The audiobook narrated by Coleen Marlo is well done. I think my ears are now used to her after devouring three books straight. I am settled into her vocal quirks, they seem less now, maybe she has been working on them. I do enjoy her pace and energy in the story. She moves swiftly with the story and makes for a more engaging read.
This book moves things along in the Enchanted Village. I am super curious who the Elder really is, will we ever know? I will have to jump right into the latest book in the series!!
Darcy and the 'As you wish' sleuths are at it again. Hired to investigate a suspected "Pet ..Show More »show cheater" who ruthlessly has puts the competition out by injuring the contestant's owners. As Darcy tries closing in on her target everything goes pear shaped when the suspected cheat dies in front of Darcy.
Now animals all over the Enchanted Village are disappearing and fingers are pointing in every direction as Darcy's suspect list grows. Complicating things further the Enchanted Village is looking less and less enchanted as Darcy discovers Aunt Ve has placed a spell on her and is avoiding Darcy like the plague... and the conspiracy seems to be growing as more and more trusted people appear to be in on it.
You want the truth? You can't handle the truth.
This book ties off several threads from the previous books... Delivering quite the pay off as questions are answered. Truths revealed and of course that means we are left with even more questions.
As always Blake delivers a wonderful tale in the sleepy little Enchanted Village and all the usual suspects deliver their special talents and support.
Strait from the magical Village Coleen Marlo delivers her own brand of magic. Once again a narration par excellence!
