This is a short story that takes place between the 1st and 2nd books in the Deacon Chalk Series. I normally do not buy short stories, but I had a $10 ..Show More »credit burning a hole in my pocket and decided to give it a go.
This story is refered to in the 2nd book in the series. It definitely added value to get the back story on one of the more interesting characters in the series, that being Ronnie and her mysterious ghost spiders.
As usual, this is a fast paced action filled story. It isn't particularly deep, but given the nature of a short story the author did an excellent job. I actually found that I liked this short story better than the latest (3rd) book in the series. The story runs about 2 hours and costs just shy of $5. If you have enjoyed the Deacon Chalk series so far you will like this short story.
Honestly, you don't need any of the short stories to enjoy the series if you are tight on money. I really hope the author will put all the short stories into an anthology. That would definitely be worth a credit. Still the story is good. The narrarator as before does a great job with Deacon but has a limited range for other characters. He still pulls it off nicely. If you don't mind spending $5 for a 2 hour story you will enjoy this one.
This is listed as book 2.5 of the Dacon Chalk series. I used credit from a promotion to buy this and one other short story in this series. This one is..Show More » pretty short (around an hour and a half). Like the authors other works it is very action driven and written in a tight, fast style that I enjoy reading.
The story was pretty creepy, which made it more fun. Mr. Tuck definitely packed a whole lot into a small package. The narrator did a good job but still has a limited range for characters other than Deacon. that being said his voice for Deacon is so dead on I couldn't imagine any one else doing it justice.
The only real down side is that $5 for less than 2 hours is not a great bargain. I really hope Mr. Ruck compiles all his stories into an anthology. Still if the price isn't prohibitive for you and you like the other books in the series you will enjoy this one as well but If you choose to skip this one it won't impact your enjoyment of the rest of the series.
This is another in the Deacon Chalk series. It is well-written and packed full of action. It is short (8 hours or so) but it is the perfect size for ..Show More »the story told. The characters are well developed for what is clearly an action oriented series. The narrarators voice is perfect for Deacon. He doesn't have a lot of range, but does a good job and his performance of the main character makes up for the other weakness.
One thing to note is this one is a lot more adult oriented than the previous books. There is a good bit of swearing and some way too explict sex in the novel. Sure it fit the story, but he goes harlequin/porn for a bit there and it honestly felt forced and out of place in the story. You defnitiely do not want to listen to this one with the kids around.
Other than that this is a good book in a series that is evolving with each novel. If you are looking for a well written action/urban fantasy novel this one is definitely worth a credit.
