I admit that I too fell in love with Lord Colin Payne and the story of his escapades with the bookish Minerva Highwood, who seems likely to become one..Show More » of Spindle Cove's future spinsters. Minerva talks Lord Payne into escorting her in a fake elopement to Scotland, where she hopes to present her paper on fossils at the Geological Society in Edinburgh. Before he agrees, Colin sets several conditions on his participation, all of which Minerva knows are certain "ruin" her socially. But she is willing to sacrifice all to further her academic career. The journey becomes a comedy of errors of sorts where Colin's knack for storytelling creates unexpected surprises and brings Minerva out of her shell in astonishing ways. Minerva learns about his tragic past and brings Colin out of his "shell" as she comes to understand his secrets and what he needs to get beyond them. Lots of laughs as well as a sexy and touching romance.

First Thought when Finished: A Lady by Midnight by Tessa Dare had all the feels and smiles!
Overall Thoughts: Tessa did it again! I loved Kate and Thorne's love story. I knew these two were destined to be a great match when Kate was a bit more sure of herself on the inside and Thorne appeared very sure of himself on the outside. Thorne stepping up to "pretend" to be Kate's fiance while they figured out if her new found family was legit was fun, interesting, and intriguing. I loved Thorne's back story. I dare you not to swoon after him. I loved Kate's determination to make him see his worth. I loved the ladies of Spindle Cove making sure that this turned out exactly as it should. All around another great entry in the series.
Narrated By Carolyn Morris / Length: 10 hrs and 51 mins
Carolyn did an outstanding job with Kate and Thorne! These are really good on audio and well worth the time to listen too1
Final Thoughts: Tessa really does knock it out of the park with Kate and Thorne (his first name is Samuel but his last name fits him so well)!
I love everything about this book. The story line is fabulous, the characters are fresh and very appealing. I listened to the whole thing in one sitti..Show More »ng and I could turn around and listen to it again.
Eva Kaminsky's narration is terrific. I especially love her accent for Pauline, our heroine. Pauline is a country lass, who though lacking much formal education, is witty and quick and catches the hero's attention from first glance. Griff, the Duke of Halford has been forced by his mother, a woman who is desperate for grandchildren to pick a woman to be his Duchess. His mother vows to be able to turn any one of the ladies of Spindle Cove into a woman that the Ton will accept as Duchess material. Griff offers Pauline a good sum of money to take his mother up on her offer and to fail spectacularly. Pauline doesn't see this as a problem.
I love Tessa Dare more and more with every book of hers I read.
It's worth a credit. It's worth the money. And most importantly, it's worth the time it took to listen to it.
