I was worried in the beginning because I wasn't connecting with the characters. This book is a bit darker than the typical New Adult Romance books I r..Show More »ead. This book shows the scary side of an abusive relationship and how fast drug addiction can ruin a person in a blink of an eye. This story is about a girl who lives in a run down trailer with her drug addicted mother and abusive strung out boyfriend. Her father abandoned them when she was very young. Cass is working as a waitress in a run down diner. She's been attempting to save her tips to follow her dream of moving on to a better place. Unfortunately, events keep taking place that make her dream more and more like an unrealistic fairy tale. She becoming more jaded and starting to believe she really is trash. One day, a tattooed motorcycle riding rock star named Tucker walks into the diner and sits in her section. (this is the part I have a hard time imaging) He can tell she is different & has this deep sudden connection with her. Cass doesn't believe that this man can really want her. She basically treats him like crap but he doesn't go away. Meanwhile, Tucker witnesses Cass being mistreated by her drug addict boyfriend named Jax. Tucker suddenly wants to protect her and be her knight in shining armor. He continues to show up regardless that she continues to say no. Gradually, Cass becomes more drawn to Tucker because he truly cares her. She just can't figure why he wants her especially after she finds out he is a famous rock star. He likes her because she doesn't use him for his fame or money. Eventually, they both can't deny their extreme physical attraction to each other. So, yes she cheats on her abusive drug addict boyfriend. Well, lets just say I start to cringe because I knew that the inevitable shoe was going to drop. And of course, it did big time! In fact, my stomach was in knots. I don't want to spoil anything but the "Jax situation" really depressed me. Its sad to see a person destroy their lives because of a drug addiction. To watch a person turn into a monster in the end. Overall, the story wasn't bad. It was more of a darker tragic romance story. I wish the last chapter hadn't felt so rushed. Seemed a bit anticlimactic! I would have enjoyed more of Tucker's back story as well.
This might be my favorite book in the series. I like Eric and Sarah more than Tucker and Cass. There's still all that drama and angst, sex and music b..Show More »ut these two characters are easier to invest in. Although Eric and Sarah’s childhood stories broke my heart, their possibility of an HEA filled me with hope. There was an undeniable connection that makes readers know the characters are right for one another. The fact that everyone around them knew they were in love before Eric and Sarah admitted it themselves adds a fun element to the story.
Though a few lighter moments were sprinkled in, Eric and Sarah's story is not light. It's dark, brooding and angst-filled. But the ending makes all those darker moments worth the read.
