This book is erotica on steroids, and it veers into erotic arenas that aren't really to my taste. It's not that I "disapprove", it's just that we all ..Show More »have a different concept of what is erotic, and for that matter, what is erotic romance, and I can only judge according to my own tastes. My concept of erotic romance is a man (or 3) who are solely dedicated to 1 woman. They are exclusive and possessive. This book featured the hero and heroine in orgies, a couple of f/f scenes, 2f/1m bedroom scenes (the "wedding night" no less), and it was sort of "anything goes" for both of them so long as there wasn't any actual intercourse other than with each other (after the consummation of their vows at any rate). The idea was "you're in another culture now and this is how it's done", but the blatant infidelity (as I saw it) bothered me more than anything else in this book. Maybe it was culture shock. Undoubtedly though, it's not what I like in my romances, erotic or otherwise.
The world building was pretty good, and the "culture building" was complex. Some of the expressions used were almost laughable, as another reviewer mentioned, but they didn't bother me too much. The secondary characters were fleshed out well, with the exception of the villain, who was your classic evil stereotype. Overall, the writing wasn't bad. It was just the premise that didn't sit well with me.
The narrator did a splendid job and I would happily listen to others books that she reads.
So this is the second book in the series and I was a little bit disappointed. I felt that it was rushed. The author was true to the story and the ne..Show More »w world. However, Rem Qan Tal could have had a great story. He lived a life deprived of his soul mate and was slowly going insane. This story skips ahead about 18 years from the last story to find Rem Qan Tal needing to find his mate. Then there is Gisele, who I think is a little dumb and falls under his spell way too quick. You don't get as much of a connection with them. Although the book has some plot twists, I just think it lacked some wow factor for me. The narrator does a great job with the voices and the dialogue. Don't get me wrong I did not hate this book I just wanted a bit more. Especially since Gisele is taken from Earth and transported to another planet, she does not seem too concerned nor did she put up much fuss. This book does lead nicely into the 3rd book and so I jumped into that one next and it was much better. Don't skip this one because all her books have some preludes to what is coming up. Plus they are not that expensive if you buy them rather than use a credit.
This is Kill & Marty's story. I like the way the author brings Marty to the new world it is different from all the other books. Marty has some spunk..Show More » to her and a mouth that gets her in trouble. However, despite her being from 1960's, the use of the word GROVEY, drove me crazy. It was a bit over done for me. I did like their story and the fact that Marty didn’t just back down easily. This book has a lot of foreshadowing for the next book in the series and I really enjoyed that part. I can't wait for the next book. I just wish audible would hurry up and get the rest of them.
It's interesting to have a continuation of the series, but the storyline has taken a seriously different path. I admire the creativity, and it's fairl..Show More »y well written, but I miss the light-hearted "camp"iness of the earlier stories. Hooper's voice brings more cohesion to series and connects the characters with earlier stories.
I don't understand why they don't have the entire series . I love this series but all of a sudden they leave you hanging. What happens with Jana, do K..Show More »ira and Carrie get to reunite, does Carrie and Dari kill the evil one. These are just a few questions we have tons. This is what makes me angry an author gets you addicted to their books then they leave you hanging . However, Audible is the worst at getting a few books but not the entire series. I promise this is my first bad review and I know it's more about how dim witted Audible is with their less than stellar choices than the book it's just stupid people bother me. Any who the series so far is Wonderful but it's very sexually graphic so if that's not for you than don't read them. Definitely worth a buy or credit...Enjoy
