I liked the story and the characters but the editing made it hard to fully enjoy. I prefer audiobooks in which the chapters have a long pause at the ..Show More »end, as this book has. But, this was the first book I have ever listened to that made it very clear where the reader stopped for a break or the day and resumed and where re-takes were made and edited in. Both the volume and tone of the reader would change abruptly and annoyingly for either, OFTEN.
I have read or listened to all the full Pike Logan novels. I truly enjoy the pacing of action, the level of detail, the characters, the interplay bet..Show More »ween genders, and the thriller/espionage elements. This short story contains these elements in a nice tight little short story. I really enjoyed learning about the early days of the unit and wouldn't mind hearing more. If you are a fan of the Pike Logan series definitely read or listen to this, while it doesn't create some big ah ha moment that explains some mystery in the series it does put a more complete perspective or depth to understanding the development of the TaskForce and the unit.
I am a big fan of Brad Taylor and this series. In my opinion, the writer and series are one of the best contemporary series in this genre. This shor..Show More »t story isn't quite up to the same level as the full novels nor the other short stories. It lacks the development and detail that I have found in the other stories. This story feels like it wants to be longer, maybe a full novel or at a minimum a few more chapters providing some of the usual details and mental gymnastics. It is still good but simply not as good.
I don't know if saying this short is fun makes sense for a suspense espionage thriller but it has a lightness that some of the other stories in this s..Show More »eries don't have. The usual action, gender struggle, character interplay are all here. The story doesn't necessarily provide background or advance the over all story of the Task Force or the unit, but does provide a glimpse into the group when they are supposedly on down time.
I enjoy the author's stories, plot lines, characters, and action, but the brutality has been getting worse and worse, and I might be done with him bec..Show More »ause of it. He could make his point quite well in a fashion other than with prolonged graphic torture scenes. I do not care for Henry Strozier's voice and style. It's ponderous and unpleasant. The voice of Pike Logan is very good, and I would be happy to listen him narrate the entire book.
