You get the gist of this story within the first hour, and then get beaten over the head with it over and over and over for the remainder.
Cor..Show More »porate entities have co-opted government, armies have been privatized, and the soldier on the ground is endangered more by bureaucracy than by the enemy. It's a good premise, and not horribly executed, but...it lacks subtlety. It's pretty preachy at times.
The sci-fi stuff -- the military parts -- are good, though not up to the standards of Campbell's Lost Fleet books, and they play out like interludes between the preaching about how the officers don't know anything and the non-coms should be able to run the army without oversight.
This is book 2 in the series and you need to have read book 1 to understand what is going on in this book. Looks like a series you MUST Read in order...Show More » Sgt Stark is now in the leader of the military on the moon after the mutiny. In this book he must bring control and motivation to the military and improve the relationship with the civilians in the moon colony. It is interesting to watch how Stark gains leadership of large groups and understands the politic in the negotiation with all the parties on earth, i.e. the corporation, the military and the government. There is military action both army and naval as well as suspense and a hunt for a spy. Great book in the tradition of the Lost Fleet. Eric Michael Summerer does a good job with the narration.
I am a fan of military Sci-Fi. I read the other two books in the series (you must read this series in order) and knew this was the last book. I was ..Show More »wondering how Campbell was going to end it, I was thinking up all types of scenarios. The politics was interesting sort of reminds you of what is going on today in Washington. The space and land battles descriptions were fantastic. Campbell is a master of space battles. I will not give away the end but Campbell did an excellent job of tying up all the ends and coming up with a reasonable ending. I have read all the Jag in Space series and the Lost Fleet which I am keeping current on as Campbell writes them. I hope Audible has books under his real name of John Henry as I want to keep reading his books. Eric M. Summerer did a great job with the narration.
