Nice sense of Danish culture surrounds a dark procedural noir detective tale. After listening to Stieg Larsson, thought I'd try Jussi Adler-Olsen. And..Show More » now I'm thinking that the paucity of daylight and heat up there near the arctic's resulted in writers who lurk in murky rooms. If I outline the plot and story arc... this will sound like... like... depressing. BUT... BUT... it's not. Look, if your seeking a hair-brained romp, go to the Disney section. But if you like puzzles and mazes bathed in challenging grimness.. Hey, this is an interesting trip.
And Erik Davies? I don't agree with some who found him weak. On the contrary, he acts the parts well with clear definition and emotion... at least the emotion you'd expect in those grim, cold, dark places... Brrrrrrrr....
One of the best crime novels I have ever experienced. This can be favorably compared to the best of Michael Connelly, James Lee Burke, John Sanford a..Show More »nd Henning Mankell. A powerful, emotional ending that will remain with me.
This is the Book "The Purity of Vengeance" Renamed
This has happened to me previously. Audible brings another narrator's version of the story online, changes the title for the North American audience, ..Show More »and I end up buying it, unaware that I have already listened to the novel. I am a bit torqued over this because now I have to go through the hassle of returning the book. I have purchased 1257 audio books and I want to be able to rely on Audible to get this stuff right the first time.
Buy the "Purity of Vengeance," narrated by Graeme Malcom…he is a much more compelling narrator.
This is a great series, I thoroughly enjoy the humor, the characters and of course the carefully crafted thrilling plots. Carl, cynical, sardonic and..Show More » oh so human, the mysterious and totally lovable Assad, loopy Rose and her alter egos, tortured Hardy and all the regular cast are here … and they dive into the ugly and shocking world of eugenics - past and present. Yes about two thirds of the way through the foreshadowing of 'whodunnit' is there - but that does not take anything away from the story. I can hardly wait for the next time we visit Carl et al - because Adler-olsen makes you care about them all!
This book has ALREADY been offered under the title The Marco Effect. The story is great, and I love this author. So I was very excited to see a new ..Show More »title!! But sadly, it is new in title alone. I was so disappointed. If you haven't heard book 5, then definitely get this. But if you're an Adler-Olsen fan just check that you haven't already purchased book 5. (This isn't the first time I've run into this so of thing with audio books.)
Department Q and a Great Mystery! You cant top it!
The Department Q series is the most entertaining of any of the detective series on Audible. I still hold Nesbo's Hole series as the absolute best, but..Show More » for fun, humor, and great mysteries Department Q is spectacular.
Department Q was created by parliament to reopen and solve cold cases. However the police force used it as an opportunity to bury Carl Morck, a very talented, but equally obnoxious, narcissistic detective by having him head the department. They place him in a basement with almost complete anonymity, along with two or three mysterious outcasts. Rose is his antisocial, overbearing office manager/detective. Ahmad is his mysterious Syrian sidekick who has a weak grasp of the language, a mysterious background Carl has never been able to discover, and yet he has made himself indispensable To Department Q.
The dialogue is quick and sharp, packed with subtle humor. This where the talents of narrator Graehem Malcom are best suited. I cant think of a better performance anywhere.
The Hanging Girl is an intriguing mystery, a hugely entertaining addition to a remarkable series.
I don't understand this fuss about the change in narrator. I'm a big fan of the series (i purchased every title so far) and thought that Graeme Malcol..Show More »m did a good job. Admittedly I was a little hesitant as i enjoyed Steven Pacey so much, but the story was so good that I didn't miss him after the first chapter. I really don't care who the narrator is there is no way I'd miss a single installment of this fantastic series!
