Sean Connery of course. The characters are a little clich? but this actually works as positive instead of a negative. There are a few unneeded twists and turns and maybe a few unnecessary characters but the overall strength of the writing makes it all worth while. You will laugh out loud, get mad at the bad guys and cheer for the heroes.

The narrator instantly became one of my favorites. His deft handling of so many different accents is something I'll look forward to every time I listen to him in the future. You will also find that he had an interesting tendency to maintain the characters speaking voice after the quotation marks ended. I think it added to the performance. It created a kind of faux first person perspective. I will be downloading other works by both this writer and narrator. Count on it.

This is enormous fun -- the same ambience and larger-than-life heroes and villains as Ian Fleming's James Bond, but set in today's times and with more..Show More » circumstantial detail than Fleming usually provided. The plot twists and turns agreeably. A big part of the success of this audiobook is its superb narrator, whose pace, varied repertoire of dead-on accents and dialects, and nuance would be hard to excel. I'm really glad that there are more of these books.

The books in this series are less believable than some, but if you like to escape through fantasy, the series is great. The futuristic technology is well-thought out, the characters are enjoyable, and the action is non-stop. This book can easily stand alone, but I'd recommend reading/listening to the books in chronological order. Even better than the story line is the narration. The narrator "performs" each book, and is the best I've ever listened to. I listen while taking long walks and in the car. If you can't enjoy far-fetched action-packed stories with macho men and beautiful women, don't bother with this book. If you like to escape into action and fantasy, you can't get a better deal in terms of hours of enjoyment for the dollars spent. I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys James Bond, James Rollins' books, etc. Lots of fun.

I am a huge fan of this series. Im sorry the first book is not on audio tape ("Hawke"). I highly suggest this book first before listening to the audio..Show More » tapes in order. It will add much to your listening pleasure and understanding. That said, I was as entertained as always with this newest offering. Warlord is my ulltimate fantasy. Alex Hawke is a character I would definitely not mind knowing in real life-handsome with charisma, insanely rich, adventurous, etc., etc. John Shea does an excellent job of narrating this book. I can't believe he isn't British. He really does a great British accent. Ambrose and Hawke sound like the real thing. My other favorite character is Stokely. My only comment is that I wish there had been more conversation between Stokely and Hawke. The two interacted together more often in previous books. The communication between the two is pure genius. I always laugh so hard I end up in tears. Although both are equally amusing in this book, I wish they had more time together. Maybe in the next book, since this one is a cliffhanger@@ I really hate to have to wait til the next book to find out what happens.
Ted Bell has a wonderful imagination. I hope he keeps on with this series. James Bond has nothing on Alex Hawke. He has a personality that women will find irresistable, and men will envy. I do not want to give away the plot. You will not be disappointed. The perfect escape !

The story, based on the improbably AI gone amok premise is very hard to get in to. I listened to the entire novel but frankly, couldn't wait for it to end. The narration is terrible and sleep inducing. Don't recommend this one.
