Very intense and controversial....but a fab listen
This book had spiked my curiosity through Goodreads, so I decided to listen. I personally enjoy this listen; HOWEVER, this book is NOT a gushy romanc..Show More »e story nor does it have your typical happy ending. It's content will be very controversial to many.
The book is powerfully written and explained the BDSM lifestyle very well. It does pull in a large Catholic religious twist in which many will take offense. Being Catholic myself and brought up in Catholic school, this twist was moot to me.
The narrator was powerful and brought this powerful story to life. However, I am now on the second book and they did not use the same narrator. I am so disappointed for this choice by the writer for the book is talking on a complete different life and NOT a good one.
After Siren, I was really excited to read this next book. I purchased it right away, and then realized that the narration wasn't going to give me the ..Show More »satisfaction I desired.
Particularly, Lilly Rhodes' interpretation of Soren is just sad. She makes him sound like an wizened old man instead of a strikingly handsome and intimidating 6'5 danish hunk priest with a whip fetish. I didn't like her Nora either -- too upbeat and cheery for the subject matter. All in all, she's a terrible fit for this kind of read.
Get it on Kindle instead. I did, and I couldn't put it down.
All of the books in this series are enjoyable. More romance than erotica, the characters talk about sex a lot more than have it. But they are interest..Show More »ing and well-developed. Well worth the price or credit.
Tiffany Reisz's storytelling abilities are extraordinary. It takes a talented author to take a reader completely out of their comfort zone, yet keep t..Show More »he same reader compelled not to want to put it in down. I’m not always comfortable with everything I read in this series. I do keep an open mind and I am captivated enough by the story to keep reading. Not only was the story captivating, but I was invested in these characters. Having read a few of these books I thought that I knew the characters well enough. Nope. Not a chance. Ms. Reisz continues to surprise me as I learn more and more about each character and the world they live in. This book is hard to review without spoiling big parts so I apologize its vague. Only con: narrator's voice seemed a bit young but still did a decent job.
