This is a great story for those of us that need a Downtown Abbey fix (myself included). I really enjoyed about 95% of the book; however, I really dis..Show More »liked the lack of a good ending. Even with the short epilogue it still left too many things unanswered. I understand this is a planned trilogy but there could have been so much more at the end. Without giving away too many spoilers I’ll just say that the choice one of the sisters makes at the end made no sense to me. It just came out of nowhere and I don’t believe it was true to the character. (In my opinion)
Of course I will get the 2nd and 3rd books in this series because the story was so incomplete. It’s a shame that publishers/authors have to drag out stories just to make a few extra bucks.
Complaints aside, the narration was excellent!!! Spot on perfect. Overall this was an easy and enjoyable listen at a fantastic price.
Much like the first book (Summerset Abbey) I enjoyed most of the story but hated the ending. Again it left too many things unanswered or unfinished. ..Show More »I also thought some of the decisions made by these characters were just absurd. Perhaps that was the intent of the author or publisher to drag the series out to make it a trilogy. (Which seems to be the popular thing to do these days)
Despite the lack of a good ending, I still really enjoyed the book. And I hate to say it but I will definitely get book 3. I just have to know how things end.
The narration was excellent – 5 stars! I just hope they keep Sarah Coomes for book 3.
The story continues with the Buxton sisters during the early years of WWI. Although this one at least had closure (unlike books 1&2) it still lacked ..Show More »a certain spark. The characters were just so one dimensional and the author never really went deep enough into what made them tick. I suppose I kept up with the series just hoping I would get some answers as to why the sisters made certain decisions in their lives. Unfortunately these answers never came.
I did enjoy the evolution of how the war brought change to women’s rights and equalities; but I could have read that in a text book.
It’s a shame because this series could have been epic, but instead turned out to be a cheap rip-off.
