I thought it was a really good story. You don't have to be a dystopian or sci-fi fan to love this book. The horrifying future that Ann Aguirre had por..Show More »trayed was so real and vivid in my mind. I have to say that I don't think the Author's focus was on the romance at all. She simply described how any teenage girl at that stage should feel.....confused and bewildered. However, I strongly recommend you NOT TO BUY THE AUDIOBOOK VERSION! I tried so hard to ignore the narrator's whiny voice but just couldn't. She made the whole thing extremly distracting I almost couldn't made it though the first half. Anyway, go buy the book. It's much worth it.
There are so many great reviews for this book and I feel kinda alone on this one so bare with me. Outpost had great potential, and there are times it ..Show More »really lived up to it, and times I wanted to fast forward. Once I was at the middle of this book it was a little bit...ummm...boring? I don't know it just wasn't what I expected.
Seeing that Deuce lived underground in a society that made up it's own rules and brainwashed it's people I was excited to see her paradigm shift. It felt as though it was going to be reminiscent of Plateo's "The Cave." It wasn't. The most she wondered about was why you celebrated birthdays and "who says I cant wear pants!" All of her "paradigm shifts" were quite shallow.
Romance is weak and there is a pointless love triangle once again.
The book starts to redeem itself towards the end and leaves you with quite the cliffhanger. I think the final installment in this series has the setup to be the best yet. Here's to hoping!
OH! Most importantly the narrator is bad. I honestly wonder if I would have felt completely different about this book had I read it instead...
I like that Horde, the third and final book in the Razorland trilogy, ended properly! There were no loose ends (like the Delirium trilogy), no sudden ..Show More »or unpleasant surprises (like the Divergent trilogy), and no wishy-washy finales (like Sookie Stackhouse). That is not to say that there weren't any twists or surprises, but everything wrapped up nicely, without seeming false or colour-by-numbers.
Honestly, this wasn't my favourite YA series, but I did enjoy it and fans of Enclave and Outpost will absolutely LOVE it. Ann Aguirre did a great job of wrapping everything up in a satisfying way, and the epilogue was a nice touch.
