I didn't get very far with this book before I abandoned it, so I can't say whether it picked up as it progressed. The things that made me abandon it ..Show More »were all story related and I did think that the narrator was rather good. So, for the story, the off putting stuff - first, the author chose to use a mixture of present tense and past tense. I disliked the present tense narration immensely. The plot, as it began to unfold, did not interest me and the characters were already behaving in such unlikely ways that I couldn't find any enthusiasm for continuing. Overall, just not my kind of book.
The Taker is a great story. I loved the performance of the reader. And overall the story was very good, well written and so interesting!! I just felt..Show More » that that we didn't get the complete story. Or maybe it was that we had too many very good stories with none of them ever giving that feeling of satisfaction. Though Katsu certainly has set up a series in the making, and I'm looking forward to more.
