This book has been described as "Twilight with aliens", which didn't sound appealing to me at all. However, based on all the 5 star reviews and hype..Show More » for this book I went ahead and gave it a try. WOW did this book surprise me. It's witty, fast-paced, full of action and mystery and some very swoon-worthy scenes. I am a huge fan of YA romance books and this one is quickly rising to the top of my favorites list. This series is so addictive and fun that I've already downloaded books 2, 3 and 4. I'm going to be in listener heaven now.
At the beginning of the series, you might be lured into thinking this is a YA teen romance. Well it is and it is very much not. In the second novel,..Show More » much more Divergent esq., Armentrout does a fabulous job broadening the focus of the novel with surprising turns. Daemon and Kat are back and they stop the petty fighting and unite on a common goal -- can they overcome the DoD, who can the trust?
Okay, Eyre does a great job narrating. If you are are a fan of hunger games, divergent, steelheart, etc. You will love the series and book 2. Give it a read.
I've read the whole series and LOVE it, so I was so excited when I found this on audible. I decided to start with Opal, and am I the only one surprise..Show More »d that his name is pronounced Demon??!! I always assumed that since it's spelled Daemon, that it was pronounced Damon. I don't like that his name is Demon!!! That has bad connotations! Not like the hero at all! I absolutely hate that his name is Demon on audio! I won't listen to the rest of them because to me he's NOT a Demon!!! Just ruined it for me. What a horrible name for such a charming, funny, all around great guy. I will stick to the books.
In order to appreciate this novel you have to start at the beginning. In Origin, the DoD takes the stage front and center. I will not say more about ..Show More »this; but what is outstanding is the way Armentrout continues to widen the the plot. In the first novel, you get lulled into thinking this is a trite YA romance about aliens, and by this book she has widened the scope and brought many serious issues to bear. She masterfully brings up relevant issues that affect us in society today. If you look beyond her story for her message, I think you'll be impressed with the questions she raises and her opinions she has offered so far.
In this book, Eyre reads from Kat's POV and Shapiro from for Daemons's. This narration is especially potent in the audio book, I am not sure it would be as good if you were reading it. The author's ability to use dialog to move the story forward is excellent as is her character development. I highly recommend the book and I can't wait for the final outcome. If the last four books are any indication, it should be a hit. I hope so, because book three of Divergent and Hunger Games were such a disappointment. That said, on to book 5.
I was a completer hater through book 1 but obviously kept reading. This book was the perfect ending to the series. I will "miss" the characters...all ..Show More »of them! Especially LOVE daemon and his alpha male obnoxiousness! I didn't think I would make it through a 5 book series (3 is generally enough) but this completely kept my interest! So clearly I must've like it. Tons of action, love and everything else
