While Jake and her family are well developed characters, many of the other characters seem to fall into stereotypes. I know that small towns are prone to gossip, but I wonder if people in Maine all have guns and tend to be closed mouth about their feelings and family. It sounded like Graves was talking about a small town in the Appalachians. I guess that is a stereotype that I have about that region. Also, the tie with New York should be cut. Is this the only town in Maine that people from New York want to? And does Jacobia have to know them? I thought New York was a big city. Anyway, it was a good story. I like the developments with Jacobia's family. Like I said I will read another book in this series.

There is a lot going on and Jakobia and Ellie are drawn into the mystery to save Victor of all people. This is a solid good mystery and I would recommend it to anyone who likes cozy mysteries as well as someone who like darker mysteries. This book walks a fine line.

I have read the previous three books and plan to read the next book as well. As long as Sarah Graves writes like this, I will read the entire series.

This is a well written story with great characters. Although I recommend reading the entire series in order, it is possible to read them out of order..Show More ». Each book is capable of standing alone. The story is well plotted with the right amount of suspense. Despite murder most foul, this book manages to keep a light tone and have a happy ending.

I have been an Audible listener for over 4 years, and this book ranks at the bottom of my selections from Audibile. I have read and listened to all of..Show More » the "Jake" books and have pretty much liked them. This one, however, has a plot so far away from plausible that it is bordering on foolish. The Maine accents are horrendous (take that from a native Mainer who has lived Downeast for 20 ears), and anyone who lives near the Atlantic Ocean, especially in the cold waters off Eastport, will recognize that spending any amount of time in the frigid ocean waters is deadly. The 3 year old in this book must be bionic to survive her spill in the water and getting thrown against a wooden structure after she had been kidnapped and drugged with opium for a day. I only finished listening to the book because I didn't want to "waste" my Audible credit.

This is a great book. It started with action and kept it up through the entire book. This is the best in the series, so far.

The plot is fresh and fast paced. Lindsay Ellison is Jakobia Tiptree. She adds personality and life to Sarah's words. I have read all of the books in this series and I look forward to buying and listening to the next one as well.
