I read this entire series back when it first came out on paperback. When I saw it on Audible I had to get it. I was a bit disappointed that Amazon Whi..Show More »sperSync isn't yet available for the first two books.
While I found the narrator pleasant to listen too, there were a couple of issues that were a little distracting. There were a few words that the narrator consistently mispronounced. For example, "rudder," the big flap at the rear of a ship, is not pronounced, "rooder." That's the one that sticks out in my memory because a significant part of the story was set onboard a sailing vessel.
There were also a few places where the wrong word was given emphasis, totally flipping the meaning of the word pair. One that comes to mind is, "Drow hunter." In this book, that term is used to refer to one of the primary Drow characters when they were searching for, tracking, or sneaking up on one of the other characters, as in a hunter who is a Drow, or a Drow who is hunting. The narrator usually made it sound as if it was referring to a person, or creature that hunted Drow.
And finally, there were a few places where the recording quality changes dramatically for a few words. It sounded as if the majority of the recording was done in a home studio with mid to high end consumer grade equipment, and for some reason a sentence or two would be rerecorded in a professional studio on professional recording equipment.
The performance of the person reading this audio book was horrid. The worst audio book I have listened to yet. Many pregnant pauses... The person read..Show More »ing this obviously has no interest in the subject matter as she has no idea how to pronounce most of the names and stumbles through most of the book. I had to move the speed to 1.5 to stand her talking. The story is awesome, I have read it, but if I could I would get my credit back.
