This was a great book, but not great literature. If you are looking for a sophisticated crime drama with deep meaning this book will not please. It ..Show More »is however a a fast paced read with very likeable characters that catch your interest and create a desire to know what is next. It was the first book in a while that I couldn't wait see what was next and found myself making time to finish listening to.
Laughed my butt off while at the same time being strung along by the Author's, Chris Grabenstein, plot at a crisp pace. The book is so entertaining t..Show More »hat I may be forced to visit the New Jersey coast line in summer just to get the real flavor of the book. I am now drawn into the lives of the characters and can't wait for the next book to come out. Thank you Chris Grabenstein.
This series just keeps getting better. Although they retained the traits that make them unique and endearing, John Ceepak and Danny became more realis..Show More »tic in this third instalment. Ceepak is softening a little and becoming less rigid, perhaps recovering slowly from his experiences in the army, while Danny has become a full-time police officer (graduating well from the academy) and is maturing. Their relationship still has a mentoring feel but it's clear here that the two are becoming friends on a more equal footing. So many male bonding relationships depicted in fiction involve consuming large quantities of alcohol and/or treating women like objects that it's quite refreshing to see a healthy relationship depicted without these elements.
Grabenstein does a great job of lulling you into a false sense of security with respect to the pace and direction of the story before taking you in an entirely unpredictable direction. This one was so engrossing and suspense-filled I had to walk an extra 2 kilometres so I could finish listening. As a bonus, although darker in terms of subject matter than the previous two books in the series, this one is actually funnier. Danny Boyle's narrative voice is delightfully witty and it has lost its slight juvenile quality as Danny has matured.
The only thing more enjoyable than anticipating a new Ceepak and Boyle adventure being read to me by the wonderful Jeff Woodman is having my expectations exceeded. I am completely smitten by this series and there's nothing for me to do now but play all my Bruce Springsteen CDs (his lyrics inspire our two New Jersey heroes) and see how long I can wait until I listen to the fourth book in the series which is already waiting on my iPod.
I've read all of the Ceepak Mysteries and was not disappointed by Hell Hole. The anticipation and mystery unfolds at a nice pace and I really enjoyed..Show More » the ending. Based on the ending, I'm looking forward to the next book. Of course, I always enjoy Jeff Woodman's narration too.
I got into the John Ceepak series when I noticed it recommended as pick on Audible. I loved the Mad Mouse and just burned through the next three book..Show More »s in the series. I was looking forward to Mind Scrambler, anticipating the book would follow Ceepak's no good father to Ohio. Instead, we went to Atlantic City where Ceepak and Danny run into ex-girlfriend Katy. It is fun to follow the untwisting knot of relationships and motivations as they are revealed thread by thread. It is this understanding that Danny is beginning to understand. Danny is pressed to make decisions based on his assessments of the human beings. Danny's skill matures enough to enable him to bring John Ceepak from the edge of murdering someone himself.
The Audible recording is narrated by Jeff Woodman who does an outstanding job. I highly recommend the audible version of the entire series.
Picked this out of a list of legal thrillers for my first audible book. I enjoyed the combination of humor and mystery very much. I did not have to co..Show More »ncentrate too much on the characters to keep everything straight, so its a good book for a drive in traffic. Very good narration.
A wonderful listen. Jeff Woodman should win an award. He is I think, the best narrator on Audible. His different voices are perfect and he gets mal..Show More »e and female spot on. Unbelievably good narration.
The story was great too. I always enjoy this author and he is the only person I will download without bothering to listen to a sample.
Keep them coming. A brilliant, wonderful combination of author and narrator. Well done.
