She kept a great balance throughout the book by building the action, the paranormal world they live in and the romance. The sex scenes are hot and steamy! There is nothing I hate more than when authors write the big build-up to the romance and sex, then leave you to fill in the blanks. In this Larissa Ione did not disappoint - hot, steamy and wicked!!! Hey Audible - you need to get the remaining 4 books of this series and her others ASAP!

Shade didn’t really do much for me in Pleasure Unbound so I was skeptical about how much I’d enjoy learning about his story. Desire Unchained didn’t b..Show More »low me away like its predecessor did but it’s still a good read. We finally get to learn about the curse that kept coming up in the first book. The reveal was a tad anticlimactic in my opinion. For me, Gem and Kynan sort of stole the spotlight too. I think I enjoyed their interactions more than what was happening between Shade and Runa. Oh well!

The first half of the book is great. I’m particularly fond of Runa. She went from being a weak, love struck human to a don’t-mess-with-me werewolf. Shade didn’t expect his ex lover to come back for him with a vengeance (and claws!). I liked how every time the seminus demon would try to pull the same stunts he used to pull on the wolf; she’d push back and put him in his place. You don’t survive a werewolf attack without growing a backbone! I enjoyed seeing a character learn from her mistakes for a change. Runa was on the verge of falling into her old habits with Shade more than once only to realize what was happening and then she’d conscientiously take steps to change directions. I admired her knack for dealing with Shade and the way that she overcomes being a victim.

The big bad wasn’t much of a surprise, in fact, his name is mentioned several times in the blurb which I found a little disappointing. Larissa could have played up the mystery a bit more and the same thing goes for Shade’s curse. After finishing Pleasure Unbound, I was definitely curious to learn more about it but I found the truth to be somewhat of a let down to be honest. Ione’s characters and her Demonica world are so well-developed that I expected something similar with regards to these two elements. I just found that she gave the information up either too easily or simply didn’t elaborate enough on them. Maybe I’m just nitpicking but I’d expected more.

That’s not to say that there aren’t some tender moments between Shade and Runa because there are. In fact, I was on the verge of tears more than once which never happened while I was reading about Eidolon and Tayla. Gem and Kynan are amazing in this novel. With the way that things end between them in Desire Unchained, I’m really hoping that they get a book of their own, or a spin-off, or a novella, or… something! Because their story is just begging to be told!

Desire Unchained has many of the same elements that made me fall in love with the first book of this series but on a more subdued level. It’s good but it’s just not terrific. Although, many of my fellow reviewers seem to disagree with my point of view on this; which is fine, to each their own! Wraith’s story is up next and I hope that Larissa nails this book because I think it has the potential to be pure gold. Fingers crossed!

I wish there was a way to rate the narrator separate from the book itself. The narrator had very strange inflections in her voice and the "sultry" sou..Show More »nd of it made everything painful to listen to. It was great during the intimate scenes between the main characters but way too distracting during the normal and fight scenes. She would sometimes whisper and slur her words I would have to back up just to make sure I heard correctly.

The book, however, was pretty good. So far, in the Demonica Series, it is one of my favorites. I'm glad I pushed through the narration to get through it. Unfortunately I started the Eternal Rider series first so I knew more about the Underworld Universe Ione created than I should have going into the first three books but she still did not disappoint. I haven't go ahead to look at any of the other recordings to see if Renee Raudman is a narrator, but if so I'm going to have to break down and buy the book. Not that I mind physically reading, but it takes me twice as long with time constraints.

If you truly love the Demonica books you could probably get around the narrator (it took most of part one for me to) but if you're unsure or get easily distracted by narration you might want to skip this one.

I am in LOVE with these Demonica Novels by Larissa Ione. (I really hope that she writes more than 5 books!) I also really enjoyed the first 3 audio ..Show More »downloads, but this one, book #4, is my least favorite. Again, the book itself is fantastic, as good as the other 3. Yet I had a very hard time listening to this male narrator. I wish that they would have used a female narrator as they did for the other books in this series. (Why wouldn't they use the same narrator for each book in the series????) He sounds way too snooty, radio commerical, to read the dirty talking and great sex scenes that are in this book. His voice really made if difficult to get into the book like i did with the others. The others I could listen to over and over, but not this 4th book. SAD!!!!

I absolutely love The Demonica series. I couldnt put them down when I first read them so I was so looking forward to the audio version. I listen to ..Show More »audio books daily and all are paranormal romance/urban fantasy, so I am no newbie to audio or this genre. The narrator made it very difficult to listen, I actually dreaded it but did finish because aI love these books. As I said I have listened everyday for about 2 years now to audio books. Every narrator, male and female, were able to identify with each character. I came to know how the character was just by their speech. This narrator mostly sounded like she was reading the book only. Im going to write the publishing company of this audio to beg them to please change narrators for future books. If you listen like I do you will understand immediately what I mean. Sin sounded like a little girl and not the firce woman she is!
