Peter Raeder became the Commonwealth's first ace pilot in the war against the secessionist Mollies. That battle cost him his hand - and his right to fly the nimble Speeds that had been his first love. Now he's Flight Engineer on the fast carrier Invincible, a crack new ship with a picked crew, ready to fight the Mollies who control the universe's richest anti-hydrogen mines, and the loathsome spider-like alien Fibians who have come to their aid.
Most of the book was engaging and fun, but the ending felt unrealistic. Recommended for fans of military science fiction.
Flight Engineer Peter Raeder saved his ship, but his heroism didn't follow the rulebook. The reward was a reprimand and a desk assignment - a fate worse than death for Raeder. Fortunately, a Marine General offers Raeder command of a hidden base deep in hostile space from which he will attack enemy shipping, a mission preferable to exile to an office cubicle...even if his chances of surviving this assignment are very nearly zero.

Star Trek's Scotty and Stirling continue the saga of Peter Raeder, former fighter pilot and unorthodox war hero, and his ship, Invincible. On a desperate mission to hit the alien Fibians behind the lines, the battle drives Raeder deep into alien space and damages his ship beyond hope of returning home. There, he discovers the monstrous Fibians may not be monsters after all.
