Get through this one because the next two are good
I had read all of the Zombie Fallout books and was excited to find there were more books about Mike Talbot's earlier life. This book disappointed me, ..Show More »though, because it was so dark and didn't have the humor the Zombie books had. I found it a little oppressive without the comic relief.
I think there were only two of these Indian Hill books available when I purchased this, and I bought them both at the same time. By the time I finished this one, though, I wasn't sure I could bring myself to listen to the next one. I put it off for about 6 months, I think. Then I saw there was a third book and it was on sale so I felt I had to buy it. (OCD, what can I say?) I finally told myself, "You bought 'em, your're gonna listen to them!" And myself whined a little and then started on book 2.
What a relief to discover that the sarcastic, wise-cracking Mike Talbot I had known and loved was back! I finished book 2 and immediately listened to book 3. I had thought it was a trilogy, but now I think there will be more and I'm looking forward to them.
So, if you like Talbot, it's worth listening to this book to set you up for the two that follow.
I haven’t read the first Indian Hill book but I am going to. You really should start this series with the first book. In the Reckoning you pick up wer..Show More »e the first book left off.
Michael Talbot, our hero, is back on earth and he knows that the Progerians are coming and what they plan for our small world. They have done the same thing on many other worlds. However, they have never fought Humans before.
This book is more about the results of the first alien attack and the aftermath of the destruction of the military and government. Without rules, chaos.
This book shows how fast everything can fall apart. The three story lines involve Mike, now 21, Deb and Beth, and Paul. Deb and Beth are the two young women that Mike loves. They were on the alien ship with him and other humans. Paul is Mike’s best friend. They grew up together. Paul thought that Mike had been killed and he had started to put together a secret army to fight the aliens.
The story goes back and forth from one character to the other showing what each of them has had to do to survive. Civilization has collapsed and this is humanity at its worst. Remains of National Guard and Police try to keep some balance of order but the dregs are taking over.
Mr. Tufo has added depth to his characters in this book. You can love, hate, pity, and despise them all at the same time. Lots of action and blood shed and a last page that will leave you ……
This audio book was read by Sean Runnette. He has a wonderful voice and his narration was exciting. He gave life to the characters with feeling. He performed each character with just the right expression and emotion. Excellent rendition.
The audio production was also excellent. Every word was clear. No static or unwanted skips.

Like the consummate author he is, Mr. Tufo has done it again. This series is a perfect example of the work of Mark Tufo. I think that the mark of..Show More » a true master of story telling is being able to start a genre( which this series truly does) and craft it into a work of art. If anybody reads this review, and u are undecided about spending the money, or credits to get it, well, u really haven't expanded your mind, till u read or listen to Tufo
