Barrett is a new author for me, but I feel as though I have read this story many times. A damaged solider takes on the responsibility to protect an an..Show More »gelic social worker, who carries her own baggage from a neglect filled childhood. The two are on the run from killers who are determined to eliminate witnesses. The ending has a bit of a twist, but it's not enough to drag this story up from its down hill slide.
Besides following the typical romance-suspense formula, this book lacks depth and originality in character development. It is not poorly written, mechanically, i.e. grammar is adequate, but the writing style lacks originality. Rather than an unique voice, this author has a conglomerate of styles gleaned from other romance writers.
