Right now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long to listen to this book. I've had it in my Wish List over 6 months and I'm really mad I left it there ..Show More »so long. This book was wonderful, and the narrator was great too. Very rarely do I find a book that can make me (both) laugh out loud and cry. But, this was one of those pieces of work.
Kiersten White is wonderful at making you understand the true emotions that her characters feel. The love that Evie feels for Lish (her best friend who is also a mermaid), the loathing she feels for Reth (a faerie that seems to stalk her) and the confusion that Lend (an unknown paranormal creature who can steal the appearance of others) brings into her life. Plus, I admire any author that can bring a young adult book to life without any cursing. Instead you get Lish's hilarious monotone voice "bleep"ing. Just try not to laugh when you hear it!
If you're looking for a book to listen to in small intervals during your commute, this is NOT the book for you. This book sucks you in and leaves you wanting more.
This quirky paranormal story is written and played out with so much heart, it's hard to imagine how one would not be charmed by it...Evie and her misa..Show More »dventures, and her love for her sweet boyfriend. Yes, this is a youth-oriented story and the relationship between Evie and Lend remains innocent, so you just have to know that's what you're going for with this tale. The writing is good. Ms. White has considerable talent, and she does not "take it easy" and bring only her B or her C game because this story could probably "coast" on it's quirkiness and fun even with lesser writing. Instead, she fully commits with her A-game. The characters are endearing. Evie will win your heart; yes, the thinks and sounds much like a teenager because she is one. Lend is a charming and sweet character. Sure, he may be a bit ideal (as Evie would say, "read: Too good to be true!"), but after all, isn't that what fiction is for? Excellent narration by Emily Eiden...she IS Evie, she truly makes her real.
I thought this was a nice wrap up for the series. The book was action packed, funny and entertaining. One thing just kept me from 'really' loving th..Show More »is book though and it is the whiplash I got from going back and forth over whether Evie liked Reth, hated Reth, trusted him or didn't. Every chapter it was a different emotion felt for him and I guess maybe it was to keep us guessing if he's good or bad etc... but really, all it did was annoy me. I think my favorite character was Jack, he seemed most real to me out of the last 2 books. Other than the Reth deal, I really liked how the book ended. I would absolutely recommend this series to readers who like action and humor I'm sure some people won't be bothered by the whole Reth thing but for me it was just irritating. Narration - I am 100% thrilled with the narrator. She does a brilliant job with all the characters and she really puts a lot in to make Evie a wonderful 16 yo teen. She is very believable and I love that! Happy Reading (listening)
