I'm usually a little wary of Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance books because so many of them are full of fluff but Magic Bites is pure steel! The p..Show More »lot is filled with twists and turns and lots of mystery. The ending leaves a feeling of closure, yet still has you wanting more! Kate, the main character is a strong female lead with issues and integrity. Ilona Andrew's Atlanta is unique and more than a little bit sinister.
So why did I give this book only 4 stars? The narration. Renee Raudman does do an excellent job narrating but she mispronounces a lot of words which made the narrative jarring. The most noticeable example being the way she said wolf. Woof.
I am totally hooked on these books. They were a long shot for me at first, just looking for something in this genre not about sex and with magic invol..Show More »ved as well. I found exactly what I was looking for. Kate is a great character and I want a Curran in my own life. Andrews provides characters that are believable and imaginable and the fantasy realm is lucky to have her! I read the third book because it is not available on audio yet because I couldn't wait. Each character introduced into the story has meaning and a place. Kate is no pushover but she is very in touch with her human side. The first book was a little frustrating trying to figure out exactly what she is but it comes out full swing in the third book so please keep reading. It is worth it! You can read these out of order but I highly discourage it, you will loose a lot of character tension.
I find nothing wrong with the narrator, either.
I highly recommed the series, Andrews, Kate and Curran will not let you down.
If you love Urban Fantasy, then don't hesitate in choosing Ilona Andrews! For best enjoyment, read/listen to Magic Bites and Magic Burns, then savor M..Show More »agic Strikes. Renee Raudman catches our herione's voice and tone so well and is always a pleasure to listen too! This story will take you on a fast ride that dosn't stop until the end and you wish you had several chapters more. Audible, thanks for bringing this listen on board - we will ALWAYs want more Ilona Andrews!
Wow! What a great book! This series gets better and better.
One of the many things, I like about the Ilona Andrews writing team, is that even t..Show More »hough this is book 4 in a 7 book series, it doesn't feel like a "bridge" book. When I finished reading "Magic Bleeds" I felt a satisfaction, that I haven't had lately when reading books from other series that I follow. "Magic Bleeds" is the whole enchilada. You get action, romance, and one of the best kick-butt heroines out there. It's a "I can't stop listening" even though it's one in the morning kinda book.
Yeah, it's that good.
Renee Raudman, is the perfect narrator for this series. Kudos, to whomever paired the Kate Daniel, Magic Series with Ms. Raudman. She gets the sarcastic humor of this book, and plays right into it. She is so good, that you forget that she is READING the book. Instead, it feels like she is TELLING you her story.
This book is another solid addition to the series. Kate finds out more about her mother's side of the family and some painful truth. At the same time ..Show More »the relationship with Curran is becoming more solid. I was surprised and delighted by the choice Curran made to Kate. One of the most romantic gestures I've ever read! You know then that he truly loves Kate no matter what over anything and anybody.
This series and the Dresden series are the only series I buy both the printed and the audiobook version as soon as they come out. They are that good ! I like to listen to the books first because that way I don't miss a word. I tend to read really fast and I usually don't savor every word the first time around. BUT I just couldn't wait this time and I've already read the printed version...So please if possible, could you release the audiobook version at the same time as the book?
This book was very enjoyable. The book, being mostly about Andrea, filled in a lot of the backstory on her life and really shed light on some of her ..Show More »previous actions. The plot line was fairly fast paced and made sense within the larger world of the Kate Daniels books as well as on it's own. You wouldn't have to listen to any other book to enjoy or understand this one. I liked seeing Kate and Curran through another characters eyes as well as many of the other characters we've only seen through Kate's eyes, though Kate and Curran weren't really a large part of this book. I think I'll probably end up listening to this one again. Renee Raudman did a fine job as narrator and her voice makes me think of the characters of this series.
