The narrator did a horrible job narrating the male lead character Gideon. He was supposed to be British but having lived in Boston for many many decad..Show More »es. You'd expect a toned down English accent, right? Nope. She was all over the place, sometimes sounding Scottish, sometimes Australian, some Irish, and maybe even a little Canadian. There was some English accent in there, but it wasn't consistently from one area in England either. It was distracting enough to pull me right out of the story, which was really good on its own.
Lara Adrian's captivating Vampire mythology is completely unique. She has taken one or two of the "Hollywood" elements, but oh my goodness, the rest o..Show More »f her Vampire world is unlike anything I have read before and I cannot get enough of the richly detailed backstory that is flawlessly woven into the main story. The exposition is paced perfectly - giving enough detail to be relevant and intriguing, adding more suspense and mystery to the novel as the plot progresses.
We are immediately swept up into the story by Hillary Huber's sultry voice. Her pacing and timing are perfect and she is wonderful at breathing life into the characters. Each male has a distinct personality which she brings to life with clever and competent use of different accents and varying timbre, making it easy to listen and envision the story as it happens. Not a lot of female narrators can pull off the smoldering Alpha-Male characters without sounding androgynous and awkward. Hillary's portrayal of Lucan is just plain sexy. She adds color and character to each male in the book - breathing just the right amount of passion, restraint, desire, anger, self-loathing and acidic hatred into each character. Her female voices are decent, but they all seemed to sound the same to my ears. If Hillary continues narrating the series, the only thing that I would view as an area of development would be for to give the female characters a bit more of a range and flavor, as she does so amazingly with the male characters.
I happened on Lara Adrian's books by accident and I am so happy I did. I find this series to be extremely entertaining, well thought out, and written ..Show More »very well. This is the second book in the series and I can hardly wait for each of the installments to hit the book stores. Now that they are on Audible, I am a very happy camper. I love to listen to the books as I read along because I want to know how some of the words and names of the characters are pronounced. I can also get into a very Zen kin of place and really get into the Breed world. After the first intense listening, I can listen while I do housework, laundry etc. It seems to makes the work go faster too!! BONUS!!!
I hope Audible continues to carry Ms. Adrian's books. She has 7 books in print and the 8TH is due in print on Aug.31,2010. Who knows, maybe Audible will catch up by then and ALL HER BOOKS WILL BE ON AVAILABLE ON AUDIBLE!!!
The story is fantastic. Adrian didn't disappoint! But I would not recommend this audiobook. For me I like a narrator that keeps continuity with the ch..Show More »aracter. This narrator was all over the place with each character. Very disappointing!
I loved the entire series. I cannot wait until audible produces the rest of the books in the series. The author does an excellent job of developing th..Show More »e characters. I really enjoyed that she kept characters from previous books up-to-date and continued developing them even after "their" books ended. Narrator does a good job. Like I said LOVED IT!
I waited almost two years for this book to come on audio. Yes, I did read the paperback. However, the audio was so intense it was not hearing or rea..Show More »ding the story for the first time. Reneta is my favorite. You feel what she feels.
I've been reading this series from book 1, and suggest others do likewise, as the series definitely needs to be read in order. We are introduced to An..Show More »dreas, our hero, in previous books, when he was called upon to help "the order". I wasn't sure how he'd work as the hero of a book, as he wasn't actually a member of "the order". I had no idea about his special talent and apparently neither did anyone else.
In this book, he rekindles things with an old flame, and there are lots of complications. I'm usually not into "second time around" romances, but this book makes it work. The romantic tension is just right, the advancement of the back story to the series is action packed, and the ending is satisfying.
This book (and series) is great!! I love how Lara Adrian builds interesting twist and turns within her plots, while keeping the complex storyline eas..Show More »y to follow. She also hits the mark on keeping the passion levels high in the romance department and holds your interest from start to finish.
Although I would recommend starting this series from the beginning (Kiss of Midnight), enough of the background storyline is written in for any new readers.
I was counting the days waiting for this next story to come out and it was worth the wait. Hunter and Corrine's story was very touching. I not only li..Show More »stened but read the book as well. BIG props to Hilary Huber she totally brings you in to the story I almost wish I could meet a "Warrior from the Order".
I have read AND listened to all of the stories (more than once) and I love the fact that none of the stories are the same they all have their own story line. I am so over Dragos and ready for him to go down but I am sure when Lara gives us that story she is going to do it good.
Can't wait till Chase's story is realeased (FYI if you buy the book at the end Lara gives you a quick glance of the begining of Chase's story).
HAPPY LISTENING :)
Those of us who have read or listened to The Breed series have been waiting for Sterling Chase's "happily ever after" for quite awhile. However, this ..Show More »listener thought that this was the conclusion to an awesome series and I didn't want that. But not to worry. Even though this book tied up the loose ends nicely and brought us to a conclusion of sorts, a glance at the author's website shows books #11 and #12 to come so the world is not yet safe. (hooray for that!) Chase is one of the good guys. He has always had a sense of honor even though he has been through some pretty horrible events. So he was due for some good stuff to happen and in this book, Chase found his perfect mate in Tavia. Tavia is a strong, likable character that is a great heroine, and she goes well with the tortured Chase. Once again Hillary Huber is the narrator and she does an excellent job with the voices and accents. It is always nice when a great narrator reads the entire series. Lara Adrian has not been repetitive in the course of 10 books. She came up with a fresh plot for every book. What an imagination she has! I highly recommend this book, and the entire series. Not only did this series interest me enough to purchase every audio book, it has interested me enough to listen to every audio book again and again. Buy the book, buy the series. You won't be disappointed. It's 5 stars all the way.
As an avid fan of the hunky vampire Breed Warriors I was completely shocked and blown away as I started listening to this story as BAM it's set two de..Show More »cades forward from the last book and we see The Order, made up of the Breeds together with their new generations of fighters, as they have to face an even deadlier enemy in a darker more hostile world. If you're expecting the 'same ol same ol' story then you'd be wrong so hold on..... because (if you download this) then you are about to be blown away by a 'can't stop - just one more chapter' listen.
Ms Adrian's gifted writing has taken the entire cast of characters and catapulted them (and us) into an exciting, thrilling, emotional and altogether more sinister world which unfolds before us and is made up of humans v vampires. We find Mira fighting but still broken hearted years after, Kellan her friend and first love's death, only to discover that things were not as they seemed. There's shock, betrayal, anger, and disbelief coupled with forgiveness, passion, sexual desire, heartbreak, sorrow, redemption and undying love but the inevitable prophecy shown in Mira's eyes must play out and the ultimate sacrifice has to be made.
All the old familiar loveable characters are there but they are joined now by their offspring and there's a glimpse of exciting new ones still to come as The Order continue to entertain and thrill us paranormal fans as together they fight for the good of the planet against unseen new deadlier evil enemies - and long may they continue to do so.
Worth a credit? Yes definitely, and the previous books are a good foundation to this new world, but this could be a stand alone start of a whole new series as we see the deadliest of vampire wars begin.
