Allyson Johnson is Honor Harrington, the book would not be as good without her reading.

This series has been very enjoyable to listen too. These books are somewhat uplifting - I guess that's the fantasy part of a galactic war - but - Th..Show More »e good guys are good and the bad guys are bad, however, they may or may not be enemies.

There is a couple improvements that Audible could make on most of these series of books - like the honor harrington series. First, I'd like to know what book in a series I'm buying without having to research the series, book 1,2,3, etc. You can't go by audible's release date, they tend to release some of the latest books first, look at "War of Honor" in this series. The easiest way I have found to identify the series order is to Google them. Googling the series brings up the author's comments in Amazon which usually will tell you the series order.
The following is the order of the Harrington series:

2) The Honor of the Queen
3) The Short Victorious War
4) Field of Dishonour
5) Flag in Exile
6) Honor among Enemies
7) In Enemy Hands

My second recommendation for improvements was to do with getting comments/reviews on the books in Audible. I believe that Amazon is the parent company to Audible, so why not have Audible reviews "hot link" to the Amazon reviews of the same book, especially where there are no reviews in Audible. This would eliminate someone from having to copy the title, going to Amazon and searching their books for reviews and comments. Sorry, for straying a little, but I hope it helps.

Just a note about my high 5-star ratings - I usually only rate books that I really enjoy, hence high ratings in all my rating history. Maybe I will change in the future, but since I have so many books, maybe not. JWP

the downside: AUDIBLE decided to pause production of the Honor Harrington series with this book, my problem with this is this book is a cliff hanger, if audible wanted to pause the series they should have done so with the previous book as from this book on you could reasonably argue that the remaining books are really one very long book, at the very least Echoes of Honor should be done so as not to leave people hanging on a MAJOR cliff hanger

Her leadership ability bringing all the various people that have been in prison from various planets was interesting to watch. The battle scenes were great. Honor is beginning to remind me of Admiral H. Nelson of the British Navy. First the lost of an eye, now an arm what next? Allyson Johnson does a great job reading the series. She is Honor to me now. Can not wait to start the next book in the series.

PRH meanwhile finally established something like a democratic government without any Nepotism in the system, and the sails of PRH finally caught some wind.

Everybody agreed that better to have bad peace than Good War, unfortunately ambitions of some people do not agree to this assessment, so during the peace get ready for war.

One new conduit to manticoran wormhole is explored please try to guess where it leads?

My review is not simply regarding this book but others in the series, Honor Harrington is really a very great character and once again I must say I en..Show More »joy how this character grows through the series. How she starts as a commander and becomes so much more, and how she is unsure of herself somewhat and overcomes that as wel as how her life touches others in her life. I also really like the characters around her, and how they help her become strong. One thing I must say this hold thing about the narrator is so unfair, Ms. Johnson voice works so well for this series please everyone give this a rest.

The story fit the title. A rising thunder is designed to build up all the causation for the push in the second half of this installment due later this..Show More » year. The story is actually made up of several short stories interlinked by the main common theme. I liked the quick pace of multiple events happening in succession all over the the galaxy and being interlinked with the "rising" plot. I am salivating for the missile crescendo that will spell the end of Manpower....
As For JOHNSON's narration. Ok one Good compliment and one little criticism. The critical first: Johnson had a tendency to confuse scenes a bit in this one. For example: At the end of a certain Board meeting in old Chicago (towards the end of the book) she cuts away to a conversation between a powerful Male and Female character without a breath, it was a little disorienting. On the bright side, People have been hating on Johnson for her changing of the pronunciation of Manticorian. She used to say Man-Tic -or-n. BUT she has grown as a narrator and now pronounces it Manticorian, which is the correct phoneme structure. The old way was 4 distinct Morphemes while the proper (new say she says it) is only 3. Proper pronunciation is defined "Communicating a words intent using the least morphemic units" SO major kudos to Johnson for this.
THIS IS NOT for the first time Weber reader, it would be like trying to read Lord of the rings and getting irritated because you choose to start in the last half of the third book.
Overall I enjoyed it for its purpose; to build up for the coming storm and it was needed synopsis for the major events enveloping every major and most of the minor star nations in the series.

Well, "Shadow of Freedom" is still too long. Mr. Weber, always fond of using too many words, has padded this story out beyond easy comprehension. He introduces multiple new situations and multiple new characters to the point where the listener becomes confused and bored. About 25% of the novel is good, with great battle scenes, though they are a bit long. The rest is eminently forgettable. The author normally excels at keeping his plot lines and timeline consistent, but this time, he seems to have erred in a short Zilwicki sequence and a reference to Honor Harrington's role in constructing the peace agreement with Haven. The latter seems perfunctory and not consistent with the time frame of the rest of the story. I, along with other reviewers, would like to see the Mesan Alignment tale brought to a conclusion. Instead, 17 hours later, the plot has advanced only a little. Mr. Weber owes his readers, and listeners, a tighter, better-constructed story, with some kind of end in sight, rather than the ponderous unwieldy tale he just published. If the series continues in this bloated way, I am going to be rooting for Manpower to win!
