So, if you like Dexter and like the show, you will not be disappointed. However, if you have never read one of the books in this series, start elsewhere. The plot is intriguing but I found the ending to be anti-climatic. Too sudden after all the set up. It left me anticipating the next installment, the next program.Unfortunately, I will have to wait more than one week.

However, within the first 15 minutes (or so) of this novel you are assaulted by a very violent, very graphic act of absolute craziness and insanity. (Just an FYI, be prepared)

I almost stopped listening there out of pure disgust, but once I was past it most of the novel was pretty good.

The ending is of course a 'cliff hanger' leaving you wanting more Dexter.

The narrator is the same from the other novels and does a good job.

I give it 3 1/2 stars out of 5.

Nick Landrum really characterized Dexter with his reading/acting skills. He brought us that sardonic side of Dexter just with his tone of voice. The author as reader is just reading. I so loved the other Dexter novels (via audiobook) but I'm not sure I can finish this one. I would have loved to hear Landrum's Dexter bring this new twist to Dexter's life. I hope the publisher will consider doing another version as this one is not up to par.

Yes, I agree wtih others, Jeff Lindsay is a brilliant writer but not so hot as an audiobook reader. Let the pros put the polish on your work, Jeff!

Revolting but funny and I choose to believe adorable in self defence. Dexter is in a pickle trying to be a dedicated daddy and husband in the middle of coming the closest ever to being exposed as the dark avenger. Which among other things lands him in the middle of the wilderness on a Boy Scout camping trip that almost made coffee squirt out of my nose. My one complaint is that the self descriptive internal monologging got to be a bit much. Dexter the dark, Dexter the dangerous, Dexter the devious, Dexter of the enormous brain, Dexter the extremely long winded to the point of more than a few eye rolls and an unkind thought or two about the author using it to fill pages. Overall though I enjoyed it very much.
