Instead of a quirky old lady with outrageously funny comments, she now sounds like an old smoker making odd comments that don't match her voice.

I really enjoyed listening to "Four to Score" and I think it's is a wonderful book, in fact it was the first book of the series that I listened to so many years ago. I really love all of the unforgettable characters, especially Grandma Mazur! I believe you will really enjoy this book and get a laugh or twelve!

I started with book 1 on Audible and fell in love with the character, Stephanie Plum, and the narrator, Lori Petty. I listened to a sample of Loralei..Show More » King and swore I was not going to listen any further (I loved Lori Petty's Jersey accent). But when it came time for book 7, I caved because I wanted more Stephanie Plum. After listening to this book -- I must say, Loralei King does a tremendous job and I've become a fan. It takes me some time to get use to different narrators but after the first little bit, I was able to adapt. I'm glad I caved because I really enjoy Loralei's rendition of Stephanie and all the other wonderful characters. As for the book itself--loved it--true to form for the series and Janet Evanovich.

Ten Big Ones, for m..Show More »e, fully meets the criteria for the "relax and be distracted" category. This was my second Stephanie Plum book, and I am on Audible tonight to buy a third. Stephanie Plum lives in world rich with detail and strong (and different) characters. The end of Ten Big Ones includes a brief interview with the author who explains why she left painting, and writing romance novels to write "humorous Indiana Jones stories". Ten Big Ones is a story I always looked forward to getting back to, and one that offered a delightful respite from the "should" books on my iPod (like 8th Habit). I recommend it not as a Ludlum or a Grisham, just a fun and engaging story

"Thirteen" is good if you liked "Twelve"; if you did not, then skip it. Props to Ms Evanovich for the exploding taxidermy, for Grandma Mazur's continu..Show More »ing romantic exploits, for Tank and Lula's ongoing intrigue (we learn Tank's first name in this one), and for more plausible FTAs. It's a pleasure to see Stephanie becoming more capable and self-sufficent. Morelli is conveniently absent for much of the story and Stephanie is with Ranger. Both guys are likable characters, Ranger has more dimension than in the books before #12 but the continuing three-way with Ranger and Morelli is just not believable. (Steph, go with Ranger.) Glad there were not sightings of the idiot sister Valerie in this book. I get the impression that Ms. Evanovich is reframing her formula for these books and I like the change.

I have read all of the Plum books and I must say Fearless Fourteen is one of my favorites. There was Stephanie, Morelli, Ranger and all the regulars ..Show More »plus some old friends and new.

Mooner was back which is where I got most of my chuckles. He is such a rich character and the way he interacts with Stephanie is extremely humorous. Oh there was a monkey too which had me laughing out loud.

The two hunks in Stephanie's life are back finer than ever. If I was Stephanie I don't think I could choose so I guess she shouldn't for a while yet.

The central story is simply great and all of the smaller ones weave in well so fun and sleuthing builds nicely. In the end we are left waiting for ------- Fifteen. I can't wait!

Lorelei King does a wonderful narration. I must say I had a bit of trouble transitioning from C.J. Critt but now I am very comfortable with Miss King.

This book is mostly held together with cliches of the other books - nothing new that moves the series forward.

I have all the Stephanie Plum novels in hard copy and audiobook and this one was a let down. I re-downloaded Ten Big Ones to get my Stephanie fix. "Ten" has new characters, a wedding, an invasion of Ranger's private space, persuit by a gang, an hilarious FTA-doodle lady, etc. Jam packed funny adventure. Sizzling Sixteen is a major disappointment.

The only thing that is worth it is the excellent reader Lorelei and how she makes all the characters come alive. But that didn't even to it for me this time. Janet, next one needs to be Ending Eighteen! Thanks for the ride though.

Spoiler Alert!

After having given up on the series several books ago, I was persuaded to read #17 and thought that maybe things were back on ..Show More »track. Explosive Eighteen was a massive disappointment. After teasing the reader (for ages!) with hints about what happened in Hawaii, we get a brief (and unsatisfying) few lines to explain why the stagnant love triangle is still in place and then it's on to the rest of the convoluted storyline that seemed to drag on forever. In the past, even when I've been frustrated by the refusal to choose between Ranger & Joe, I've been able to appreciate the screwball comedy. This book lacked the laugh-out-loud moments that, for me, partially redeemed a few of the books beyond #9. In 18, I spent a lot of time feeling like I was waiting for a punchline that never arrived. Worse, still, is the fact that Joe & Ranger have been reduced to shadows of their former selves and neither one bears much resemblance to the alpha-types I knew and loved. They just seemed worn out and as tired of dealing with Stephanie as I am. I cannot for the life of me figure out what either man is supposed to find so irresistible about Stephanie that they would be willing to settle for whatever crumbs she's willing to give them. Even without being able to blame a "curse," Stephanie is still casually sleeping with both of them, willing to commit to neither of them and they just jump in and rescue her incompetent self over and over again. (IMO) It's not charming, it's not cute, it's not endearing and I spent most of the book being bored by the litany of junk food she consumes and wondering why she was so stupid that she allowed the same guy to steal her car over and over again.

Without totally giving away the ending, I will say that I thought it was a lame attempt to persuade readers that an actual choice might be in the making. I have made peace with the fact that as long as the books are selling, no choice will be made and the characters will continue to devolve until they just make an occasional appearance to yank her out of burning buildings with a "Babe!" or "Cupcake!" and not much else.

I don't think anyone expects literary genius from these books, but I sincerely miss the comedic spark, the genuinely funny situations, and the depth/heart that was present in the early books and lost along the way.

I have listened to all 19 of the Stephanie Plum novels. There are so many characters in them that you come to love: Grandma, Lula, Connie, Moreli, R..Show More »anger, etc -- we even have a movie. But, the problem with the series at 19 is that Evanovich is using recycled events. Yup, Stephanie’s car gets blown up and Moreli’s car in flames. Bombing, knifing shooting, Lula pouncing, stun-gun, and a tiki all set in a mystery that I hardly was able to care about. A tiki, really? Can Evanovich possible pack more recycled gimmicks into a seven hour listen?

Evanovich still hasn’t moved any of the characters forward in their relationships except for a few, inconsequential declarations. Sure Stephanie Plum is a magnet for trouble and that’s still fun but we need to see some character growth. The love triangle is old and way past its usefulness. I would like to see more plot and a little more resolution within the series backdrop. Skip this book, you have read it all before.
