The heroes were initially developed well but somewhere along the line they were all lobotomized. The plot dragged along because our heroes fell into ..Show More »every obvious trap there was. The characters themselves were not too bad and that was the only thing that kept me going to the end. I have read other McDermott pieces and was disappointed.
Imagine DA VINCI CODE (not a well-written book, just a ripping story) written by a seventeen year old X BOX playing teenaged boy and you pretty much h..Show More »ave this series. since i'm a sucker for any story with an archeologist protagonist, bought this for a nice escape. i had forgotten that i'd (tried) listening to a previous one in the series and when an absolutely laughable chase scene ensued i remembered that in the last one i stopped listening when a motorcycle/auto chase scene went on for TWENTY FOUR MINUTES...just chasing and crashing. i could hear the author telling his agent "i just wrote the chase scene to end all chase scenes!" unfortunately, it bored me to tears and ended my listening experience. the dialogue is too dopey for me and it's just...kind of silly.

This is the stuff of Saturday morning cartoons but still highly entertaining for all it's unlikeliness. I've been listening to this series for some time now and I have become very accustomed to the wonderful work and voices of Gildart Jackson. I loved be..Show More »ing able to pick out all the individual voices and really hear the emotions of the characters (especially the cheerful humor of Eddie Chase).
After several books into the series, the narrator has been switched to Robin Sachs and it's driving me crazy! Not only are several of the voices fairly similar to others, but i can't concentrate on the story when I hear a well known character speak with someone else's voice. It's like having a friend you've known forever and one day he talks with a different voice entirely! He has the same words and actions, but different inflection, tone, accent and even formant! It really throws you in a loop!

Similar story style to Matthew Reilly ... Just as fast but with added touches of fun relationships make this story a great read. Based around mythical history it is believable and Andy makes the strory plausable. This is my first story from Andy and while I wish I had read the other books first (in order) this story does stand up well as a standalone book and very much worth the read.
