The book starts off right in the middle of things and then jumps back a bit to catch the reader up on events. It is definitely a great way to hook the..Show More » audience from the get go.
Addison is a bit like Stephanie Plum, she falls into detective work and lucks into solving things. She is far more inept and scatterbrained to actually be a detective in my mind. She is not as bright as one would hope a history teacher would be, many clues get dropped but she misses them. Still she manages to be charismatic and engaging.
The mystery is all over the place, much like the heroine. There are many red herrings to take things off course. The mind spins at moments, maybe a few too many cases going on at one time. It tends to muddy things up for the main mystery. I had a bead on the culprit but the tricky twist through me off for a second. Definitely keeps you on your toes.
The romance is a nice diversion, Addison and Nick have a great chemistry. Things are more sexual tension than full on bedroom action. Things get into heavy petting and hot kisses but the bedroom stays empty. Sigh, such a tease, but I figure things will spice up in the next book.
This is first person, it is easier to handle in audio than straight reading. Addison has a very interesting POV, she really is flighty. Her quirkiness adds to the fun feel of the read, nothing too heavy. Her ice cream obsession is delightful!
I listened to the audiobook narrated by Connie Ventress, she does a wonderful job. As the main character is Southern she has a think accent. The accent is great, reminds me of my youth in the south. It really enhances the story and makes it sing. She has a fantastic pace in the read, it moves along, flowing beautifully. I can not wait to hear more of her in this series and elsewhere.
Overall, this is a fun read that keeps you enthralled from beginning to the end. It isn't perfect but it is always entertaining. I am definitely intrigued by where this series is headed. I am ready to jump straight into the next book!

First Thought when Finished: Another fun ride! I am so sad that there are only 2 books in this series so far :(
Story Thoughts: Whiskey Sour is one of those books that was made for ice tea and summer porches. Addison Holmes (not quite PI) is working in surveillance for her best friend’s PI firm. It makes for some seriously fun times since she is not exactly trained for this kind of work. What I like best about these stories is that Liliana never tries to make Addison more clever, skilled, or stealthy than she is so you can get lost in the shenanigans without going “OH PLEASE”. This time that includes an escort agency, a waxing incident, and a movie experience we can all identify with (if you have a heart LOL). In other words, some truly fun capers (with hot men) that just make you bubble over in laughter.
Character Thoughts: Addison Holmes is a hot mess but one that is trying desperately to get her life together. I think she grew a LOT in Whiskey Sour and that made me love her more. Her love life is a mess and I was worried we were venturing into love triangle territory for a minute. However, one of the growth things Addison tackled was staying true to herself. YEAH! I love Addison’s friends! They really are great Yin/Yangs for her. Her best friend (Kate) is her anchor and I adore her. Kate had some stuff to deal with during the story and their friendship was beautiful to watch. They supported each other even though I am pretty sure they both think the Twinkies were a bad idea :) The characters really do shine and make you smile about every other page!

Connie is such a fun narrator for this series. She pretty much nails Addison in pacing, emotion, and sarcasm (yes I went there). I think she adds a little extra something that makes you laugh a little harder at Addison’s shenanigans. Not as big a fan of the voices for the men but they are easy to get used too. Overall, if the series continues then I will be getting it on audio!
Final Thoughts: This is just a fun mystery that had me rolling in laughter!

First thought when Finished: Whiskey for Breakfast was another entertaining listen that had me giggling. OMG that ending!
Overall Thoughts: Oh Addison! She is hands down one of my favorite hot messes of all time. This gal just can't seem to do anything in a traditional sense and that leads to some romping good times. This is the 3rd book in the series (I think they can all be read stand alone but you miss some character development) and the characters are still as entertaining as ever. It takes a village to help Addison crack a case (stay out of trouble) and her village rocks. I was glad to see a resolution to the love triangle even though it was another loss for me in the "character picks the other guy" lotto. The case wasn't the strongest in the series but it was still fun to follow. Liliana just knows how to entertain and make you grin!

I waited months for the audiobook to come out because Connie is Addison to me. This is one of those series that will forever be an audiobook buy for me as long as Connie is doing the narration. She has fun and quirky down to a science!
Final Thoughts: Can't wait for the next one! I mean the ending alone made my jaw drop :)
