As far as my 'listening' experience, I thought it was at the top in quality, narration and idea inventiveness. The relationships in the book were man..Show More »y and the female and male narration was really good. Some of the male vampire characters were slightly grating on my ears, but then what 500 year old vampire is going to have a soothing and pleasant voice right? Think about it.
I purchased all four paperback books from Lorraine Kennedy, in the Immortal Destiny Series, and I real..Show More »ly enjoyed them all. She writes about paranormal-vampire-wolf-mixed breed creatures in this edgy romance - all taking place in the modern world. These creatures of the night who live among us, maintain the traditional formalities of long ago, which include romance (which our generation sorely lacks), traditions, respect for women and order of life & death.
WARNING: If you don't appreciate TRUE AND REAL ROMANCE, than you won't like this audio book. It is not a "smut" book that seems to be the trend these days. The Immortal Destiny Series books are TRUE ROMANCE stories. Example (for those who don't know the difference): True romance includes things such as: A man holding the door open for a woman, or the tension of wanting, but waiting for the "final act", and not rushing sex - a touch, a whisper, a scent, the look in your lovers eyes, a 'tear' - the hunt and the chase, and so on.
ON TO THE AUDIO BOOK - NARRATED BY DESTINY LANDON & LEE JAMES
"FABULOUS-NOUS AT IT'S BEST!" FIVE STARS
I just finished "listening" to the audio book Night Breed, narrated by one of my new favorites Destiny Landon and Lee James, and I must say, this audio book took my breath away. Sarah, is the beautiful, flame haired young witch who is just learning of her powers and purpose in this world. She must trust lycans and similar "shady character"sorts, in her journey to pretty much, saving the world. In the end, a hideously, disfigured, monstrosity loves her like no other being ... but can she love him in return - as only he has proven to be the one thing in this realm that would give his life to protect her and love her, from anything in this world, or the other worlds, that would bring harm to her?
It is imperative that you read each of the books in the Immortal Destiny Series in the right order or you will be lost (and listen to them in the audio book format of course in the right order as well). Each ending is a cliffhanger in each book, that is rewarded in in the next book. The main characters, which are many, each possess a meaningful and important role to each book that continues into the next book in the series. It is rare to find an author that can maintain order within the web she has weaved with the many characters taking several different paths - having some returning to their initial destination, some dying off, others "turning", and so on. Lorraine creates one big maze, which actually makes sense at the end of each book, but will definitely exercise you brain power. You will come away with the thought of, 'how did she do that?" At least, that is what happened to me. And what counts in these reviews, is each individuals unbiased, self induced evaluation of a piece of work we take in and regurgitate to help others find great art in this big circle.
PLEASE MAKE NOTE:
Please listen to this audio book with exceptional mind focus because there are some characters that take on various "depths", and if you do not listen with extreme intent to understand what you are hearing, you may get lost. I did get lost, but then I took a moment to think about what I just heard, to go deep within my understanding of how certain incidences could 'happen', and then my mind went 'OHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!" I get what just happened ... I get who she is ... and WOW ... I get who "she" is too! So PLEASE REMEMBER!! This is a story written by an author who travels MANY LAYERS DEEP in character creations! It is not for the shallow of thought.
I am soooo looking forward to listening to the other audio books in the Immortal Destiny Series.
I've purchased the first 3 audio books in the series, and Wolves and Black Roses is my favorite - mostly because of the couple choice, Summer and Anto..Show More »n. They are a one big fire ball of female-male attraction at it's ripest, without the gore details. Summer is promised by her family to marry Anton's brother (I hope I can say this??) whom she has never even met. Anton is sent from the Outerlands to collect Summer and bring her home to marry his brother, but Summer has always been in love with Anton who is every woman's dream - the hunky, masculine, and towering powerful male who has the style, grace and power of a surreal wolf-man. Summer does her best to "tempt' Anton into being with her, and falling in love with her, but Anton tries his best to avoid her efforts at all costs. Summer is gorgeous, with long brown shiny flowing hair and the perfect assets and voice to match. Anton's long flowing blonde hair and emotional and sexual battle with Summer lends itself to a delicious, erotic overload (if your imagination in imagery is as vivid as mine!!) They both are strong willed and determined in their efforts to attract and detach themselves from the push and pull we call the intense 'mating game'.
All the while, Summer has two sisters who are equally beautiful, but in very different ways. Sarah is the firey red head with green eyes, and is a witch who can talk with the dead, and Nicole is more like you and I, street smart and sassy, and Kathrina is the youngest sister, the gothic hottie who is just learning of her own secret powers. It is these sisters destiny to come together and fight some bad vamps, focusing on the ancient vamps who want to start a war between the wolves and the vampires. There is something much more sinister going on in the story as it teases you along and beacons your intelligence to come forth and find out what it is (which I am certain will be found out in the final book).
Many secondary subjects are introduced. Summer can see dead people and changes into something quite unexpected to fend off her captor, which only "thrills" him at her transformation even more and makes him lust to own her in every imaginable way possible at any cost.
Black Roses has a great significance, and how they are threaded through the story is very interesting and romantic in the dark sense. It is sad to find out the Marius, Summers enchanting captor, has been seeking his revenge in vain, but oh how romantic the story is.
The narrators voices for Summer and Anton were really great and brought sooooo much to the heat of the characters. Destiny Landon (female narrator) totally seduces Anton and Lee James (male narrator) totally refuses her (only in the movies or in books I say! Even I was ready to 'be with' Summer during her very first attempt.) All of the accents and necessary passion and emotion were beautifully delivered in this audio book.
