This is a great adventure and great first book in a new "Blackjack" series. Readers new to this author and character can start right here, you need no..Show More »t read the previous series. Some reviewers have criticized the first half of the book as being long on setup and low on action, I enjoyed it, the politics and personalities of the Alliance, Syndicate, and the Fleet only add interest and suspense to the story. The narration is great, my only criticism is to bring in some regional North American accents as well as British/Irish/Aussie ones.
The battles in the second half are great as is the puzzle of the aliens. There is also a good wry sense of humor throughout. The cliffhanger ending left me wanting more. Overall 4 out of 5 stars.
Here we have another successful outing by Mr. Hemry. I had mixed feelings about the end of Dreadnaught, and wondered just what might become of the All..Show More »iance Fleet after the end of the war. However, I needn't have worried, as the author has put our heroes on a journey that brings them in contact with truly alien species, while ratcheting up the tension over exactly what is going on back home.
This latest entry had quite a few surprises, including some genuinely laugh out loud moments, and a few touching exchanges, especially as relates to the personal burdens of service, resentments that build up between those who serve and those back home, and the uncertainties that befall a society upon the sudden onset of peace. And space battles, there are space battles, wonderfully well thought out spectacles that demonstrate the author's singular blend of imagination and methodical construction, which he hints at in the introduction. I can't wait for the next book.
Those who have followed the adventure since Dauntless can look forward to a treat. And those who have yet to start have another reason to pick up the series.
This book is a bit different then the others, but still a great Lost Fleet novel. It has a cool twist to the story, and ends very well. There should be..Show More » another book, but if not this one has a good ending. No clif hanger.
The narrator really brings the characters the story and characters to life in my minds eye. This is another great book for this series. I can't stop l..Show More »istening. The characters and storyline is one of my favorite of all time.
This is perhaps one of the most poignant books in the series thus far. Yes as a wise man once said "Great men are forged in fire. It is the privilege ..Show More »of lesser men to light the flame. Whatever the cost." This time Geary and his closest must pay a high price to save the Alliance from itself.
Leviathan was brilliant. I loved every second, even the emotionally painful parts. I have been feverishly wanting a book that dealt with the political pieces of the Alliance. Boom, here it is! Yet every little twist and turn of the political knife could have jumped off the pages of today's newspapers. Political responsibility.. what is it? Who is responsible? Who holds the reigns?
I am disapointed that Mr. Hemry (Jack Campbell) no longer does the Audio introduction for each book... but that is such a small complaint against such brilliant writing. Thank you for giving us a quick peek into your imaginative world.
As always Christian Rummel personifies the people of this series. His work in bringing these characters to life has shown he is a master at his craft.
