I know not why I got this book. Romance is not my area of enjoyment. I do try some of it every now in then just to see if there is an author I might l..Show More »ike. I strongly believe a good author can write anything and make you like it.
This guy sells his soul to the devil, because his wife left him. I soon figured out his wife left him, cause he is an idiot. Plus if he was a great lover, his first wife would have not left him. I mean make a woman scream in bed and she is yours for a life time. I have been married 34 years and no matter what others say, that is the secret.
The female lead is almost as dumb as him so they do go together. The story not only makes these two look stupid, but make the devil look like an idiot. To escape the devil, it seems you just have to kill yourself. How dead people kill themselves is beyond me. I know they are not dead people, they are god and demon, but still.
OK,folks, listen up... the genre reviewed here is Romance, specifically Paranormal Romance. The hero/heroine interact wonderfully because they both are..Show More » internally tortured by their own personally unresolvable problems, but that are satisfied both personally and sexually in each other. If you would be at all familiar with the concept, Romance frequent has the concept of 'destiny' in it,as in foredestined mating, and that concept comes across beautifully in this novel and audiobook. The action to bring this mating to its fruition comes in fits and starts, as a good novel should have, knowing that these characters are coming together, but how? and when? Also the interaction of the myriad cast of characters keeps the pace going well(I don't know how Gena keeps track of them all!) As for the narrator, Max Belmore, I was sold almost immediately with his sweet, sexy voice, delightfully male. It is no mean feat to tone one's voice to approximate different character traits...yeah, go ahead, you try it! So, kudos to a beautiful, dark, tortured, sexy tale. The sequels are delicious, too. Plan to keep comin' back for more. Luv ya, Gena and Max!
I got hooked on the first Lords of the Underworld story by Gena Showalter. I adore Lucien and his story. He seems like such a scared (physically a..Show More »nd emotionally), character with his past and internal turmoil, but Anya brings out Lucien and their story is addictive. I couldn't get enough and after reading the book I bought this audio book. Fast paced, and details come at you left and right. But truly fascinating to the last second!!!
The narrator captures the essence of the characters and made me care about them so much that I am counting the days until Lords of the Underworld 3 comes in July with Reyes' Story.
If you've listened to the other Lords Of The Underworld books then you will know what you are getting - a love story with a twist. This one is about ..Show More »two gods - Atlas and Nike who start off hating each other then there's struggles and a happy ending.
Another great listen from Max Bellmore, but I'm wondering if there a 5th book in this series as Gena Showalter kind of leaves you feeling that there m..Show More »ore to come, like the lords are not finished doing what they need..... confusing.. but again listen to all 4, they are good...
5 stars - The Darkest Angel by Gena Showalter is fun and right up there with the rest of the series, so for all those who enjoy the series it is a gre..Show More »at addition. Max Bellmore was good, but he did seem to have a little more whine in his female's voice this time. But with Bianka's antics I hardly notice, since I was having a good time with the story. 4 hrs 13 mins.
3 stars - Love Me to Death by Maggie Shayne was okay for a short story. I have read a few of Maggie Shayne books and to me the stories are mostly average reading. Ashford MacNab had a slow voice and it made my mind wonder sometimes, I was not overly impressed with her reading. 2 hrs 56 mins
2 stars - Lady of the Nile by Susan Krinard this book was a mess. It had a confusing storyline, I felt like the characters should be in a mental asylum, even though I know this is a paranormal story based in regency times. It was such a short story, I finished it but I was glad when it was over. 2 hrs 41 mins
I will review these two novellas separately but I must confess that I bought it solely for GS's story but (or and ? I can't decide!) as I'd never hear..Show More »d of Kait Ballenger before I thought this would be a good second listening experience.
The Darkest Angel - Well in this sexy, funny, well written and very entertaining listen Gena proves that opposites can attract and, like Adam and Eve, you just can't fight forbidden temptation. Lysander (Angel) and Blanka (Harpy) turn their mutual dislike into desire followed quickly by lust and eventually love but sassy Blanka has a lot of fun getting there. It had a few short references to Aeron and his Angel Olivia from The Darkest Passion and Paris makes an appearance too from her LOTU series but BEWARE this too short, but nevertheless brilliant book, was in Heart Of Darkness anthology.
Shadow Hunter - is about an elite group of genetically enhanced vampire fighters called The Execution Underground and in particular Damon who's one of it's members seeking revenge for his team-mate's death. Unfortunately (or fortunately - glass half full question) so is his team-mate's little sister Tiffany and she's not so little any more and he just can't keep his hands off her as his desire grows. This captivating prequel to the Execution Underground series is packed full of world-building action, suspense, twists, secrets, revelations, fighting, seduction, romance and, of course, all set around the common goal of revenge but sadly, for one of them, things don't always go to plan.
Worth a credit? Two exciting paranormal romance stories in one listen.... errr that would be a YES and a YES.
Its been a long time since I listened to the first 4 book, so I had a hard time figuring out who was with who, and where the 4th book left off, but as..Show More » always Max Bellmore narration is spell-binding, as the Lords fight for humanity along with there demons and the women who comfort them, winding a thrilling story base, you fall in love with each character and their personal fight for what they believe in, its about finding your true soul-mate, doing whats right, for not just themselfs, but for all.. A great series as we have come to expect from Ms. Showalter, passion, love, betrayle, lust, friendship and bonds that are never broken...
Max Bellmore is awesome. This series was enhanced by his voice and how he makes the charachters come alive. I would listen to any book he reads.
..Show More » />This series of books is fantastic. You get involved with the characters and the plots are consumming. Can't wait until Gena Showalter completes the series.
I was waiting for The Darkest Secret to come out and I must say that it was worth the wait, I finished this book in the first two days of down loading..Show More », Gena Showalter Does such a wonderful job with the characters, I had such a hard time putting my Ipod down, If you are like me and have liked the Dark Series you will want to read this book,
This book is the latest in Gena Showalter's Lords of the Underworld series, and it was certainly worth the wait. This series is great for those who li..Show More »ke paranormal or fantasy romance, and the hero of this book, Paris, has been my favorite "Lord" from the start. Even though it's not been that long since the last book in the series was published, I'd been waiting not so patiently for Paris' story since the first. This book appeared in New Releases 3 days before I was due to get my credits, but there was no hesitation. I threw it in my cart and purchased it within 30 seconds of first seeing it listed. I'm pleased to say that it lived up to and even exceeded my expectations.
Each book in this series focus' on one couple, but there is an ongoing back story that continues on from book to book. The books are sensual and the sex scenes are explicit and detailed, but not so much as to take away from the storyline. The plot in fast paced, the action is covered well without getting bogged down with details. No, it isn't serious literary fiction and doesn't pretend to be, but it scores high on the "good escapist fun" scale.
Previous books give you an obvious clue to who the heroine in this story is, but there are still enough unexpected twists to make it worth the read. Without risking a spoiler, I'll only say for those reading the series that some big changes take place in the back story in this book.
Max Bellimore does a tremendous job with this material as usual. He seems to get better and better with each book. He does great character voices and keeps the narrative flowing smoothly.
This series is fantastic, and this book has to be hands down the best one yet. Five stars all around because there's just nothing about this book that I didn't like.
Although this book was an improvement over the last installment, it still lacked a certain spark from the other Lords of the Underworld books. Most d..Show More »ie-hard Gena Showalter fans are aware of her new writing style and either like it or hate it. For me it wasn’t the writing style as much as the substance. This book started out well and ended well, but really just fizzled for the majority of the listen. The whole Cinderella story was a bit different for a LOTU book and just didn’t work for me. I found most of the story boring; with the exception of William. He’s always entertaining no matter what the storyline. I will probably continue with the series simply because I'm 10 books deep now and have to know how it all ends.
"Steal the box, they said. It'll be fun, they said." ~ Baden
Gena's talent really shines through in the latest addition in the Lords ..Show More »of the Underworld series. The Darkest Torment resonates a slightly dark tone, with an exciting, suspenseful, and passionate plot. As a loyal fan, who has followed this series for years, I was skeptical about the next book in the series being about Baden. But WOW, this story turned out to be one of my favorites in the series! As usual, Gena's weaves in her signature style, and we get plenty of dry humor, action, steamy romance, and plethora of quotes. I actually used the Clip feature and saved my favorite ones!
The story has multiple POV's, and we feel both Baden and Katarina's internal struggles as they slowly transform, and grow feelings for each other. When they finally give into their desires, their relationship ignites and passions flare. Throughout the story, we learn more about Katarina's dog training skills, and as a major dog lover, I really liked how her dog training plays a role in both of their transformations, especially Katarina's.
While the main plot captivated and drew me in, the subplots caught me off guard, and delivered some surprising twists that I didn't see coming. These surprises really have me excited for the next story.
Max Bellmore - The official voice for the Lords of the Underworld delivers another exceptional performance! He has a great voice that fits the male characters perfectly, and uses the right amounts of tones, pitches, and inflections to convey the different emotions throughout the story from the intense fighting, internal demon dialogue, to the really sexy scenes. I've enjoyed Max's narration from the very first book!
Lords of the Underworld is one of my favorite series, and I highly recommend it to any PNR/fantasy fan. Even though these stories are a romance at the core, they have a slightly darker plot, descriptive fight scenes, and a large portion of the multiple POV's are from a male character's perspective, so these stories can easily be enjoyed by everyone!
A couple of quotes from story:
"Your hardest times often lead to your greatest moments. So get hard." ~ William the Ever Randy
"Only one thing should be infectious. Your smile." ~ Torin
"Lords of the Underworld, definite winners." ~ Cheri
